The following is an overview of new hire information for

paraprofessional and auxiliary employees in Conroe ISD.

Payroll Information

• Salary determined by creditable years of service on file.

• Obtain original service records from prior district(s):

Within 60 days of hire date.

Out of state districts, and private schools, must be verified on Texas service record (Conroe ISD HR website).

Auxiliary send to Hilary McVay in HR.

Paraprofessionals send to Nikki Wallace in HR.

Verify correct salary has been applied.

• Wages and salaries set annually by Conroe ISD Board of Trustees.

• Automatic payroll deductions

Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS).

o Employees do not pay into Social Security.

o Percentage is set by TRS.

o Contact TRS @ www.TRS.Texas.gov for questions.

Federal income tax.

Medicare.

Child support and spousal support, if applicable.

Delinquent federal education loan payments, if applicable.

Elective health and retirement benefits.

Unauthorized or unpaid leave.

• Direct Deposit

Required of all CISD employees.

Pay dates are on the 1st & 15th of the month. Pay dates will be earlier if they fall on a weekend or holiday.

Employee Access Center:

o Change Bank Info (or submit new Direct Deposit Authorization form with required documentation to Payroll Department).

o View pay check info.

State and Local Leave

• State personal leave:

Up to 5 days annually earned on number of days worked basis.

Accumulates if not used and is transferable.

• Local personal leave:

Up to 2 days annually earned on number of days worked basis.

Do not accumulate and not transferable.

Paid at sub rate for unused days – August 15.

• State and local personal days can be donated to voluntary leave pools.

• State and local personal leave prorated if late start or early separation.

• Order of use of leave types.

• Partial-paid leave benefit after 12 months.6

Educational Aide Certification

• Instructional Paraprofessionals are required by the state of Texas, and Conroe ISD, to hold an educational aide certificate.

• Certification renewal is mandatory every 2 years.

• Failure to renew certification may result in termination.

• E-mail reminders.

• Maintain current email address in TEAL account.
