Merry Christmas Gusby Chris Chatterton
A hilarious Christmas picture book, starring the wonderfully grumpyGus!
It's Christmastime, but Gus is not a fan. He doesn't like carols, or cake, or
Christmas sweaters. And he certainly doesn't like mistletoe.
For Gus, a tree is only good for one thing, and it's not for hanging baubles on!
But can everyone's favourite grump learn to love the season of goodwill?
This brilliantly funny story will appeal to everyone who loves Christmas - and
to all those Scrooges who don't!
Author Bio
Chris Chatterton began his career in graphic design and animation, working
on a variety of projects including Dr Who and CBBC's The Dumping Ground.
Chris' passion for illustration then led him to pursue a career as a freelance
artist working on a number of children's books including Kindergarten Is Cool!
as well as the Arnold and Louise and Dino Diggers series. Now writing the
stories as well, Chris considers his Gus picture books - This is Gus and Merry
Christmas Gus - to be semi-autobiographical as he claims his loveable
grumpy dog character is based on his own grumpy moods! Originally from
County Durham, England, Chris now lives and works in Newcastle upon Tyne,
where he is also a Committee Member for the Society of Authors in the North.

The Orphans of St Halibut'sby Sophie Wills, illustrated by David Tazzyman
Lemony Snicket meets Roald Dahl in The Orphans of St Halibut's, ahilarious and quirky middle-grade about orphans, friendship, and thepower of the underdog, from debut author Sophie Wills.
Life at St Halibut's Home for Waifs and Strays has been idyllic for two months,
ever since the children buried their matron (don't look at us like that - it was an
accident!). Helpfully, the not-so-dear departed matron left behind a surprisingly
large stash of money, which will keep them in black-market lemon sherbets for
the rest of their lives! Tig, Stich, and Herc just have to make sure nobody finds
out they're on their own.
But when they find out that St Halibuts is to be inspected by DEATH (the
Department for Education, Assimilation, Training and Health), they start to
panic. They'll need to convince the inspector that everything is peachy or
they'll be sent to the Mending House - where badly-behaved orphans go,
never to return.
As the big day approaches the children start to think they might just pull it off. But when the inspector arrives, things don't just go wrong, they get spectacularly out of hand. It turns out the orphans have far more to worry about than just the inspection! They will need a miracle to save them, but all they have is Arfur, the con-man, and the children of St Cod's, their sworn enemies. Can dastardly deeds and treacherous trickery save their home?
Author Bio Sophie Wills grew up in Essex, England. She had a weekend job at a
boarding kennels where she suffered workplace bullying from a goat and
nurtured a dream to have a career she could do in her pyjamas. She worked
at two London publishers before finally achieving her ambition by going
freelance in 2003. She entered Mumsnet's first Bedtime Story competition in
2012 and Michael Rosen chose her story about a pig-riding sheriff as the
winner. Since then, she has been writing offbeat and funny stories for middlegraders, including The Orphans of St Halibut's. Sophie lives on the edge of
south-east London with her family.
