Today’s Readings
March 25, 2018 Gospel at the Procession with Palms — Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem (Mark 11:1-10 or John 12:12-16). First Reading — In spite of my sufferings I am not dis-graced. I am not put to shame (Isaiah 50:4-7). Psalm — My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? (Psalm 22). Second Reading — Christ emptied himself, and God filled this emptiness with exaltation (Philippians 2:6-11). Gospel — The account of Christ’s passion according to Mark (Mark 14:1 — 15:47 [15:1-39]).
Dear Friends in Christ, Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week, the most important and sacred week of our liturgical year. This week we commemorate our Lord’s tri-umphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. We remember his Last Supper when Christ instituted the priesthood and the Eucharist and modeled how we are to serve by washing the feet of the apostles on Holy Thursday. We observe Jesus’ suffering and death for our sins on Good Friday. We joyously celebrate his resurrection at the East-er Vigil and on Easter Sunday. I encourage you to participate in all the liturgies that make up this hallowed and revered week (please see the front of the bulletin for the sched-ule). The significance of this week is to honor and celebrate how much God loves us as was demon-strated by Jesus’ willingness to suffer in our place. His resurrection teaches us that evil and death never have the final word. Only God does. Please keep our Elect in your prayers as Dave Lubor, Alex Ludwig, Tom Tombler and Mercedes Zuk go through their final preparations to enter into the Catholic Church and become one with us at the Easter Vigil. May the Lord bless us all during this most holy week.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Fr. Matt
