Dear Parents/Carers, It is hard to believe we are in Week 6 of Term 3. We are extremely proud of our students and school community. Everyday our students strive to achieve their personal best and our community supports each student in diverse ways. We have a busy end of Term ahead of us which includes 3 Way Conferences which provide the opportunity for our students to share their learning. 3 Way Conferences Students have worked collaboratively with their teachers to develop and set ‘Learning Goals’ in English, Maths and Wellbeing. Students have displayed their ‘Learning Goals’ which enables them to reflect on their goals and strive to achieve their personal best. In Week 9 students will be sharing their ‘Learning Goals’ and achievements at 3 Way Conferences. These will be held on Monday 14
th September and
Tuesday 15th
September from 3.00pm till 5.45pm. Information in regards to booking a time slot will be sent out shortly. Class Dojo Accounts We encourage all parents/carers to ensure they have signed onto their child’s Class Dojo account. Important information and updates are sent out through this platform. Please connect with classroom teachers or via the office if you require support. Social Media As the number of older students are using social media it highlights the importance of supporting your children to manage the risks of social media so they can safely enjoy the benefits it has to offer: Educate yourself about social media. You could visit the eSafety
website to find out more about offensive content and cyberbullying and what you can do.
Teach your children about posting. Deleting a post does not mean it
is permanently gone. All their online posts, comments, likes and shares are a part of their digital footprint. Posting inappropriate
content could impact their online reputation and future.

Let your children know the importance of privacy. Many social media sites request names and dates of birth, school names and suburb. Teach your children how much personal information is too much information online. Just as we teach children to be kind, respectful and responsible to others face to face, this also applies on social media. As a parent you’re not alone in supporting your children in their use of social media. If you’re struggling with this, call the Parentline on ph: 1300 301 1300. Road Safety As we do carpark duty in the mornings and afternoons we have noticed that more of our students are riding their bikes and scooters to school without a helmet. The following excerpt is from the NT Government Bicycle Safety website https://nt.gov.au/driving/safety/bicycle-safety. Approved bike helmets provide improved protection in case of an accident or crash with another rider, pedestrian or vehicle. If you're 17 or under, you must wear an approved helmet if
you're riding on a public place or footpath. If you're over 17, you are not required to wear a helmet on a
public place or footpath unless riding on the road. However, to keep everyone safer regardless of age, it is best to always wear a helmet. Your helmet must meet the Australian
Standards as well as being properly fitted and fastened. Our concern is for the safety of your child as they ride to school and home. A helmet really will help to protect them if there is an accident. If you don’t have one an Australian Standard helmet costs between $15 and $20 dollars at Kmart or Big W and is a great safety investment for your child. We are also aware that with the older students wearing a helmet is not ‘cool’ so they may very well have one and be choosing not to wear it. We have stopped students and reminded them of the safety (and law) requirements of wearing a helmet as we see them. It is also important that helmets are clipped up securely under the chin when the rider is on the bike.
Sharing of food: At Durack we love to celebrate Birthdays. During the COVID Pandemic we need to refrain from sharing food. If you wish your child to celebrate their birthday with their class by supplying a treat we recommend cupcakes instead of whole cakes. An alternative to cupcakes is Icy poles. Please take into consideration students that have allergies. If you are unsure if there is a student in your child’s class with an allergy please contact the teacher or give the office a call. Have a wonderful week Kind regards Cindy McLaren and Kerry Vincent

On Thursday 13th August, eight Durack School SVPC representatives attended the SVPC Summit. At the summit, students learned how to create short videos on laptops and iPads with different apps using the photos taken from school fundraising events. Durack students used the photos from the Superheros Day. At the end of the day, representatives from each of the participating schools joined together to present a cheque for $3904.60 to the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Maths is fun. We had to estimate the area of a Stegosaurus footprint and Ayla guessed the
exact amount - 1040 blocks!
We have been investigating dinosaurs this term and one hatched out of an egg in our
classroom!
We enjoy working on iPads and
computers. We are getting faster at typing using the
keyboard.
We love art on Friday afternoon.
We have been creative in our Writer’s Notebook doing all kinds
of different writing.
Reading is a quiet and relaxing
time.
Aquaponics Update
Check out our amazing new look in the Aquaponics
garden. Our wonderful students have been busy
building the new garden beds.
The garden beds, hay and soil were able to be
purchased from the funds raised at the Easter Raffle

1. The ‘Kiss and Go’ Lane is the front curve along the sidewalk. This is a designated drop off area. DO NOT leave your car unattended in this lane.
2. The ‘Kiss and Go’ Lane is for student drop off only. Adults may not exit their car.
3. When using the ‘Kiss and Go’, pull as far forward as the lane or the car in front of you allows.
4. Students should always EXIT vehicles curb side (to the left), so please adjust any car/booster seats to enable exiting from your vehicle. Your child should be 100% prepared to exit the car with all their belongings. They need to be able to do this independently.
Please ensure students come to school each day dressed in the correct Durack School uniform.
Shirts: Royal blue polo shirt, with embroidered Durack School logo and collar detail.
