The Moon’s Phases

From this perspective, only the “half-Moon” is seen. However, an observer on Earth will see the Moon through its various phases. The times shown (on the Earth’s picture) corresponds to the Moon’s position in its monthly orbit at noontime.

The Moon’s Front Side

We get to see only 56% of this side of the Moon because it’s synchronized into an orbit with the same period of rotation as its revolution around the Earth.
