TAMPING AND LINING OF RAILWAY TRACKSWe own the latest-tampinger machines manufactured by Plasser & Theurer.
Machine operators and supervisors have been trained at the manufacturer’s production plant in
Austria and they are also very experienced when it comes to renewing and constructing railways
and also improving railway geometry during maintenance works.
RAILWAY CONSTRUCTIONRailway construction is one of the main activities
of LEONHARD WEISS RTE - the company has
been involved in since its founding in railway con-
struction since its founding in 1996.
We perform all kinds of operations related to the
construction of railways, from the design process
and earthworks to track superstructures. Thanks
to our highly qualified and experienced team, and
by using the latest railway technology and machi-
nery available in the Baltics, we are able to work
quickly, guarantee good quality and listen to the
client’s wishes.
RENEWAL OF RAILWAY TRACKSLEONHARD WEISS RTE is proficient in renewing railway tracks according to the requirements
set by the client, both at and between stations.
We are familiar with all types of work involved in railway renewal. Most such operations have been
mechanised using the latest technology. All of the railways renovated by LEONHARD WEISS RTE
meet previously set criteria and ensure that trains will move at the predetermined speeds. We are
prepared to work with other companies in the LEONHARD WEISS-Group and with third parties
to carry out even the most specific assignments like cleaning of track ballast and rail grinding.
YOUR PARTNER ON THE RAILWAYS OF ALL GAUGES
RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE
SNOW CONTROL ON RAILWAYS AND TURNOUTSDuring the winter months, we can provide mechanical snow control on tracks and turnouts, using
combined ATLAS rail excavators that are equipped with snow brushes (in addition to scoops). If
necessary, we can organise teams of locomotive drivers and mechanics to work on snowplows
and snow-removal trains (SPDM, SM-2, etc.) in several shifts.
The problem often persists despite fitting more important switches with electrical heating
devices: sometimes the snow just does not melt fast enough. We have substantial experience in
organising manual snow control and enough qualified employees to provide a 24-hour service,
if required. Training employees and supervising their activities helps to ensure occupational as
well as railway safety in difficult working and weather conditions.
FULL MAINTENANCE OF RAILWAY SECTIONSOnce construction and renovation are complete, railways require timely and professional
maintenance to ensure that railway vehicles can move at the optimal speed. We are capable of
performing maintenance operations related to different rail tracks and other railway facilities,
starting from checking and recording the condition of the railway and carrying out regular main-
tenance, and ending with complex maintenance tasks whereby several mechanical operations
are performed simultaneously to achieve a prolonged effect. Carrying out complex and regular
maintenance operations allows railway traffic to proceed without trouble and prevents the need
to put out fires (figuratively speaking) whereby it may not be possible to perform emergency
maintenance within a certain timeframe.
REPLACEMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF TURNOUTSBy delivering high-quality work and meeting the requirements set by the manufacturer, we can
guarantee that the turnouts – which are regarded as the most complicated railway superstructu-
res – can be used for a long time. Turnouts are installed using pre-assembled blocks or separate
rail elements, if necessary. In order to prepare stable foundations and ensure the correct geo-
metry, we make use of the latest equipment, such as the UNIMAT 08/27-3S tamping and lining
machine. We use thermite welding if needed, and restore grooved rails and rail ends by hardfa-
cing them. Maintenance work includes preventive grinding.
REPLACEMENT OF SLEEPERS AND RAIL FASTENINGSWe use optimally mechanised solutions for all types of work, including replacing regular woo-
den sleepers, hardwood sleepers and various concrete sleepers and repairing and changing
rail fastenings. We have all of the necessary tools and small mechanisms for handling different
types of sleepers and rail fastenings. We also have rail excavators with additional equipment at
our disposal.
REPLACEMENT OF RAILS AND RESTORING CONTINUOUSLY WELDED RAILSReplacement of faulty and dangerously defective rails; laying and replacing of rails, incl. con-
tinuously welded rails together with destressing (fastening of rails at a stress-free, neutral rail
temperature); replacing rail fastening; installing insulated joints; thermite and flash butt welding;
etc. If necessary, we will restore railway geometry before replacing the rails in order to ensure a
longer lifetime for the rails.

the construction of tramways, from the design
process and earthworks to track superstructures.

CONSTRUCTION OF TRAM STOPS AND SHELTERSWe perform every kind of operation related to
the construction of tramways according to the
client’s wishes. Together with our partners we
construct tram stop networks as per the agreed
solution, shelters, access paths and signs.

RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE
INSTALLING AUTOMATIC LEVEL CROSSING FITTINGS AND LEVEL CROSSING WIRINGRailway and tramway infrastructure is becoming more elaborate and complex. There is an increa-
sing need for modern and safe level and pedestrian crossings.
LEONHARD WEISS RTE works with partners to install automatic level crossing fittings, if neces-
sary.
CONSTRUCTION AND REPLACEMENT OF LEVEL CROSSINGS AND PEDESTRIAN CROS-SINGSLEONHARD WEISS RTE has substantial experience in the construction of level and pedestrian
crossings in Estonia and abroad. As per the client’s wishes, we will install level crossing surface
constructions made of reinforced concrete, rubber, asphalt or wood on any type of rail track
superstructure.
CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION OF RAILWAY PLATFORMSSuitable railway platforms (corresponding to the vehicle used) must be constructed at all railway
stations and stops.
The need to build platforms is also something that should be taken into account when construc-
ting or renovating railways. LEONHARD WEISS RTE carries out all necessary construction and
renovation operations guaranteeing quality and safety and considering train traffic requirements,
site topography and the necessary facilities for passengers (access paths, stairs, shelters, buil-
dings, signs, etc.).
CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION OF DRAINAGE FACILITIESWe construct and renovate drainage facilities (incl. drainage, water diverting systems for bridges
and viaducts, etc.). We have the cutting-edge technology and qualified team needed to perform
the required work.
CONSTRUCTION OF CULVERTSLEONHARD WEISS RTE has substantial experience in the construction of new culverts and reno-
vation of existing ones. We have transformed numerous depreciated small bridges into culverts
during railway renovations.
CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION OF RETAINING WALLSWe construct and renovate retaining walls (incl. bridges and viaducts). We have the cutting-edge
technology and qualified team needed to perform the required work. Where necessary, we can
involve our partners in order to resolve specific issues.
CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION OF FLYOVERSLEONHARD WEISS RTE also builds and renovates flyovers and sets up the automation and
wiring of structures.

tunnels in Estonia and abroad.

CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION OF RAILWAY AND ROAD VIADUCTSWe have substantial experience in the construction and renovation of railway and road viaducts
and footbridges with various structures.
CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION OF TUNNELSLEONHARD WEISS RTE has substantial experience in the construction of pedestrian tunnels
with various structures.
FLASH BUTT WELDING OF RAILSTimely rail welding is very important in ensuring
maximum train speeds and the integrity of rail
chains. LEONHARD WEISS RTE has the quali-
fied workers and special equipment it needs to
perform thermite welding, flash butt welding and
hardfacing and using the weld pool method.
We weld rails together using K-355 mobile flash
butt welding machines. These machines let us
provide welding services anywhere that can be
accessed on road or via a railway. Work is per-
formed based on the requirements set out in the
standard EVS-EN 14587-2:2009, unless specified
otherwise in the contract. We have provided
welding services in Estonia, Finland, Poland and
Lithuania.

CONNECTING RELIABLE TRANSPORT CHANNELS
DESTRESSING WORKSWe have the qualified workers and special equipment needed for improving geometry, releasing/
fastening, heating and stressing rails as well as carrying out flash butt and thermite welding.
HARDFACING OF CROSSINGS, GROOVED RAILS AND RAIL ENDSLEONHARD WEISS RTE renews crossing vee’s, rails and grooved rails by hardfacing them. This
enables the client to extend the exploitation time of expensive metal details, thus significantly
reducing the costs of railway maintenance. The vehicles our mobile teams use are equipped with
everything necessary for high-quality performance. We are also performing hardfacing of rail
ends at joints.
THERMITE WELDING OF RAILSELEKTRO-THERMIT is a leading producer of thermite welding materials in Europe. Our welders
are highly qualified and trained. All of our welders have ELEKTRO-THERMIT certificates valida-
ting their skills in using the methods approved by the producer. Welding work is carried out by
our mobile teams using vehicles that are equipped with everything necessary for high-quality
performance. We have provided thermite welding services in Estonia, Finland and Lithuania.
RAIL WELDING USING THE WELD POOL METHODLEONHARD WEISS RTE uses electrode welding to join rails on railway, tramway and craneway
tracks, whereby the rails are preheated and welded in special moulds.
INSTALLING TRAFFIC SIGNALSCommunication and signalling systems guarantee safety and quality when using railways.
LEONHARD WEISS RTE installs all kinds of railway traffic signals (incl. pole-mounted signals,
dwarf signals and signal bridges) both as part of railway construction services and as a separate
service.
INSTALLING DEVICE BOXES AND THEIR FOUNDATIONSLEONHARD WEISS RTE constructs foundations and installs device boxes and containers for
railway communication and signalling systems both as part of railway construction services and
as a separate service.
COMMUNICATION AND SIGNALLING, WIRINGLEONHARD WEISS RTE constructs foundations and installs all electricity, communication and
protection cables both as part of railway construction services and as a separate service.
CONSTRUCTING SUPPORT STRUCTURES, POLES AND FOUNDATIONS FOR OVERHEAD LINES WIRING AND EARTHING Overhead lines are essential parts of electrified rail tracks, which are gaining more and more
ground in Europe.
In cooperation with LEONHARD WEISS ENERGY and LEONHARD WEISS VIATER EHITUS we
have the knowledge, skills and equipment to perform all construction, repair and maintenance
tasks related railway electrification systems, communication and optical cables.

cific problems, if needed) that are necessary to acquire the initial data used to design railways
and related structures.
GEODETIC MEASUREMENTSLEONHARD WEISS RTE performs all of the geodetic measurements (involving partners in more
specific problems, if needed) that are necessary to acquire the initial data used to design railways
and related structures, incl. tamping and lining projects.
GEODETIC SITE SURVEYS/MAPPINGWe perform all of the geodetic site surveys (involving partners in more specific problems, if nee-
ded) that are necessary to prepare the construction of railways and related structures and during
construction work and monitoring said construction work, incl. tamping and lining operations.
CONSTRUCTION OF PIERS, PORTS, CRANE TRACKS AND BANK PROTECTIONS

structure. We have the cutting-edge technology

SPECIAL CONSTRUCTIONS AND WELDINGLEONHARD WEISS RTE’s large maintenance shop and extensive work experience enable us to
build parts and metal constructions weighing up to 5 tons and measuring up to 6 × 6 × 12 m, as
well as to perform surface treatments.
CONSTRUCTION, REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE OF WELDING CONTAINERSLEONHARD WEISS RTE has substantial experience in the construction, renovation and main-
tenance of portable flash butt welding equipment.
