ਏਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਲਤਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਖਜ ਪਏ ਸਖਤਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾ ॥ ਸਖਤਗੁਖਰ ਸਚੁ ਖਦੜਾਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਸਖਚ ਸੰਜਖਿ ਰਹਣਾ ॥ ਸਖਤਗੁਰ ਸਚਾ ਹੈ ਬੋਖਹਥਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰਣਾ ॥੬॥ Seeing this world on fire, I rushed to the

Sanctuary of the True Guru. The True Guru

has implanted the Truth within me; I dwell

steadfastly in Truth and self-restraint. The

True Guru is the Boat of Truth; in the Word of

the Shabad, we cross over the terrifying

world-ocean. ||6|| 70

The Purpose of our Life is to meet God

ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਉਪਜੈ ਖਿਪਜੈ ਖਿਪਖਜ ਸਿਾਈ ॥ ਿੈਿਹ ਦੇਿਤ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਲਾਜ ਿ ਿਰਹੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਘਰੁ ਿੇਰਾ ॥ ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਰ ਿਹੀ ਕਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਅਖਿਕ ਜਤਿ ਕਖਰ ਕਾਇਆ ਪਾਲੀ ॥ ਿਰਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਅਗਖਿ ਸੰਖਗ ਜਾਲੀ ॥੨॥ ਚੋਆ ਚੰਦਿੁ ਿਰਦਿ ਅੰਗਾ ॥ ਸੋ ਤਿੁ ਜਲੈ ਕਾਠ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੩॥ ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਿਹੁ ਰੇ ਗੁਿੀਆ ਖਬਿਸੈਗੋ ਰੂਪੁ ਦੇਿੈ ਸਭ ਦੁਿੀਆ ॥੪॥੧੧॥ Gauree, Kabeer Jee: We are born, and we grow, and having grown, we pass away. Before our very eyes, this world is passing away. ||1|| How can you not die of shame, claiming, "This world is mine"? At the very last moment, nothing is yours. ||1||Pause|| Trying various methods, you cherish your body, but at the time of death, it is burned in the fire. ||2||You apply sandalwood oil to your limbs, but that body is burned with the firewood. ||3||Says Kabeer, listen, O virtuous people: your beauty shall vanish, as the whole world watches. ||4||11|| 325

Pavan connects us to Maya. Without Pavan we do not have the life breath to spend time in Maya.

ਿਗਰੀ ਏਕੈ ਿਉ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਬਰਖਜ ਰਹਾਈ ॥

There are nine gates to the one city of the body; restrain your mind from escaping through them.

To meet God we must close all 9 openings and then the 10th will open.

The whole world is bound by

Kall; without the Guru, Kall cannot

be avoided. 55

Kall’s Jall

• Everything Surgun with Form is the Jall

• All our thoughts are in the Jall

• When our surti is in the 9 doors we are in the Jall

• Kall is referred to as death because if you cant

break free you are subject to the cycle of rebirth.

• You were sent with everything premade for you

as a result of desire we get caught in the Jall

because you do not recognize Truth as the

cause of all causes.

ਜਾਲੀ ਰੈਖਿ ਜਾਲੁ ਖਦਿੁ ਹੂਆ ਜੇਤੀ ਘੜੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਤੇਤੀ ॥ਰਖਸ ਰਖਸ ਚੋਗ ਚੁਗਖਹ ਖਿਤ ਫਾਸਖਹ ਛੂਟਖਸ ਿੂੜੇ ਕਵਿ ਗੁਣੀ ॥੨॥ਕਾਇਆ ਆਰਣੁ ਿਿੁ ਖਵਖਚ ਲੋਹਾ ਪੰਚ ਅਗਖਿ ਖਤਤੁ ਲਾਖਗ ਰਹੀ॥ਕੋਇਲੇ ਪਾਪ ਪੜੇ ਖਤਸੁ ਊਪਖਰ ਿਿੁ ਜਖਲਆ ਸੰਿ੍ਹੀ ਖਚੰਤ ਭਈ ॥੩॥

The night is a Jall, and the day is a Jall; there are as many traps as there are moments. With relish and delight, you continually bite at the bait; you are trapped, you fool - how will you ever escape? ||2||

The body is a furnace, and the mind is the iron within it; the five fires are heating it. Sin is the charcoal placed upon it, which burns the mind; the tongs are anxiety and worry. ||3||

ਇਸੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਅੰਦਖਰ ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਵਸਖਹ ਕਾਿੁ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਿੋਹੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ Within this body dwell the five

thieves: sexual desire, anger,

greed, emotional attachment

and egotism. 600

ਅੰਤਖਰ ਪੰਚ ਅਗਖਿ ਖਕਉ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਧੀਜੈ ॥ ਅੰਤਖਰ ਚੋਰੁ ਖਕਉ ਸਾਦੁ ਲਹੀਜੈ ॥ਗੁਰਿੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਕਾਇਆ ਗੜੁ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੪॥

The fire of the five passions burns within him;

how can he be calm? The thief is within him;

how can he taste the taste? One who becomes

Gurmukh conquers the body-fortress. ||4|| 905

ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਿੀ ਖਬਸਰਾਉ ॥ ਤਹੀ ਖਿਰੰਜਿੁ ਸਾਚੋ ਿਾਉ॥

ਖਤਸੁ ਿਖਹ ਿਿੂਆ ਰਖਹਆ ਖਲਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਪਰਣਵਖਤ ਿਾਿਕੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਿ ਿਾਇ ॥੧੦॥ Forget the three qualities of wind, water and

fire,and concentrate on the pure True

Name.

That human who remains lovingly focused

on the Lord, prays Nanak, shall not be

eaten by Kall.||10|| 839
