Alex Dombos is a PhD student at the National Superconducting CyclotronLaboratory (NSCL) at Michigan State University where he researches nuclearastrophysics. His research group uses the Summing NaI(Tl) (SuN) detector, agamma-ray total absorption spectrometer that is optimized for geometric andintrinsicefficiency,tostudythenuclearreactionsandbetadecaysthatoccurinastrophysicalprocesses.AlexconductedhisthesisexperimentattheNSCLusingtheSuNdetectorandmultiplecharged-particledetectorstostudythebetadecayof neutron-rich nuclei. His group plans to use the data produced to constraintheoreticalmodelsthatareusedinr-processcalculations.

JamesLouis-JeanisasecondyearPhDstudentintheRadiochemistryProgramatthe University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has a BA in Chemistry with aconcentrationinRadiochemistryfromFloridaMemorialUniversity.Hisresearchfocuses on exploring the coordination and synthetic chemistry of technetiumhalide complexes, synthesizing new technetiumbinary halides, and comparingthechemistryoftechnetiumwithneighboringtransitionmetals(Re,Mo,Ru).Hisprimarygoalsaretobetterunderstandthebasicandfundamentalchemistryoftechnetiumandtoexploreitschemicalbehaviorfornuclearfuelseparationandpotentialwasteformapplications.

Thissummer, hewill be investigating the dose rate dependence of the stability ofnanoprecipitatesininconel718.

He isdeveloping and testing parameters for organic scintillator pulse-shapediscrimination techniques. Tyler plans to enroll in a PhD program in NuclearEngineeringwithafocusinradiationdetectionfornonproliferationapplications,afterwhichhehopestofindapositionatanationallab.

He is currently researching the applications of thermally andoptically stimulated luminescence to nuclear nonproliferation and accidentdosimetry. Bethany Goldblum is a member of the research faculty in the Department ofNuclear Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. She also serves asDirectorofEducationfortheNuclearScienceandSecurityConsortiumandDirectorofthe2014PublicPolicyandNuclearThreatsBootcamp.GoldblumreceivedaPhDin Nuclear Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2007. Herresearch interests are in the areas of fundamental nuclear physics for nuclearsecurityapplications,nuclear-plasmainteractions,scintillatorcharacterization,andnuclearenergyandweaponspolicy.Goldblummaintainsactivecollaborationswith

Charlotte Carr is the Program Manager of the Nuclear Science and SecurityConsortium.CharlotteholdsaMaster’sDegree inPublicAdministrationfromtheMiddleburyInstituteofInternationalStudiesatMonterey.NinaRosenberghasworkedinbothtechnicalandleadershiprolesatNNSANationalLaboratories since 1991. She is currently the Program Director of NuclearNonproliferation and Security at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where shemanages a portfolio that includes primarily work for NNSA's Office of DefenseNuclearNonproliferation. MiriamRathbunisafromPittsburghbutlivedmanyyearsinFranceandMoroccogrowing up. She returned to Pittsburgh for college and got very involved in thenuclearcommunityand intheAmericanNuclearSociety.Shewillbegingraduateschool in a PhD program this fall at MIT, studying computational methodsdevelopment.ThissummeratLANL,shewillbeassistingwithexecutingtheKeepinSummerProgramandisalsodesigningacriticalexperimenttovalidatenucleardata.Miriam’shobbiesincludesalsaandswingdancing,biking,andmeetingnewpeople.
