The unique feature is the 3 km double-deck motorway within the stormwater tunnel. The operation of the SMART system works on the three- principle mode of operation based on the flood discharge at the Klang River/Ampang River confluence and the operation status of the motorway

Three Tunnel Operation Modes

SMART will work on a THREE mode systemMode 1 - Under normal conditions or when rainfall is low, no water needs to be diverted into the tunnel. Mode 2 - This will divert Moderate storms floodwater into a bypass tunnel in the lower section of the motorway tunnel which will remain open to traffic. Mode 3 - During the once or twice yearly heavy storms, the tunnel is closed to road traffic and the full tunnel section becomes available to divert the increased flows
