Current Course Objectives for CSA 472/572: Software Engineering (3 Credits)

• Demonstrate an understanding of current software analysis & design methodologies

• Apply object oriented analysis to a typical problem

• Translate a logical system design into a physical system design and program specifications using object oriented design methodologies

• Explain the purpose of design in the creation of software systems, and understand the use of abstraction in this process

• Be aware of the differences between analysis, design, & implementation as an individual & as part of a team

• Understand the importance of formal methods of analysis & design & of recording analysis & design decisions

• Understand the properties of analysis, design, & software that determine quality

• Interpret & develop many design representations

• Understand methods of quality assurance in analysis, design, & implementation

• Participate in several analysis and design exercises to amplify the above concepts & methods

• Expose students to latest trends in Software Engineering through experienced alumni guest lecturers

• Stress the importance of leadership, teamwork, communications, & project management

• Provide a pool of diverse & very realistic projects• Provide a methodology to dynamically update the

curricula through a strong faculty/alumni/friends steering committee

• Provide an opportunity for students to be exposed to other views of the Software Engineering process
