Attention-when the product is installed in Rack:
1. Prevention against overloading of branch circuitWhen this product is installed in a rack and issupplied power from an outlet on the rack, pleasemake sure that the rack does not overload the supplycircuit.
2. Providing protective earthWhen this product is installed in a rack and issupplied power from an outlet on the rack, pleaseconfirm that the outlet is provided with a suitableprotective earth connection.
3. Internal air ambient temperature of the rackWhen this product is installed in a rack, please makesure that the internal air ambient temperature of therack is within the specified limit of this product.
4. Prevention against achieving hazardouscondition due to uneven mechanical loadingWhen this product is installed in a rack, please makesure that the rack does not achieve hazardouscondition due to uneven mechanical loading.
5. Install the equipment while taking the operatingtemperature of the equipment into considerationFor the operating temperature of the equipment, referto the specifications of the Operation Manual.
6. When performing the installation, keep thefollowing space away from walls in order toobtain proper exhaust and radiation of heat.Front, Right and Left : 10 cm (4 inches) or more

VentilationThe inside of the MVS-6000-C is cooled by a fan (bothsides).The power supply can be damaged if the exhaust vent(both sides) and air intake (front panel) are blocked or thefan is stopped.Therefore, leave a blank space of more than 10 cm in thefront and both sides of the MVS-6000-C.

1-2-1. Power Specifications
A switching regulator is used for the power supply of thisunit. The voltage within the range of 100 V to 240 V canbe used without changing the supply voltage.
Power requirements : AC 100 to 240 V ±10 %Power frequency : 50/60 HzCurrent consumption (when all options are installed) :
MVS-6000 : 7 to 3 A
m. As the inrush current at turn-on is a maximum 100 A (at
100 V)/175 A (at 230 V), the capacity of the AC powersource must be commensurate with this load.If the capacity of the AC power is not adequately large,the AC power source breaker will operate or the unit willabnormally operate.
. The MVS-6000 contains the single power supply unit asthe standard configuration. A maximum of two powersupply units may be installed. When starting up theMVS-6000, be sure to turn on the power of one or morepower supply units.

w. Use the approved Power Cord (3-core mains lead)/
Appliance Connector/Plug with earthing-contacts thatconforms to the safety regulations of each country ifapplicable.
. Use the Power Cord (3-core mains lead)/ApplianceConnector/Plug conforming to the proper ratings (Volt-age, Ampere).

1-4. Installing the Options
The MVS-6000-C is shipped from the factory with thenecessary option boards (refer to the following table)already installed in accordance with the specified systemconfiguration.The following options are available for the MVS-6000.

1-4-1. Installing the Plug-in Boards
cBe sure to turn off the POWER switch before startinginstallation work.If installation work is started with the POWER switch lefton, it may cause electrical shock or damage to printedcircuit boards.
Each plug-in board of the Production Switcher ProcessorMVS-6000 is allocated to a specific slot into which theymust be installed. Check to see that the respective plug-inboards are installed in their respective slots.The name of the board is shown near the eject lever at theright-most end of each plug-in board.Names of the plug-in boards and the slot numbers, towhich the plug-in boards are allocated, are shown on theExtract PWB stopper assembly inside the front panel of theMVS-6000. Install the respective plug-in boards accordingto this instruction.
m. Check to see that connectors of the plug-in boards are
securely inserted into the mother board (MB-1133board) without loose contact.If any plug-in board is inserted into the incorrect slot, itcauses a system error and the system will not workcorrectly.
. After installing the plug-in board, the software must beinstalled. Install the software of V8.00 or later version.For installing the software, refer to the user’s guide ofthe MVS-6000 system.

Installation Procedure1. Turn off the main power of this unit and disconnect the
AC power cord from the wall outlet.2. Loosen the four screws (with drop-safe) and remove
the front panel in the direction of the arrow.
3. Remove the four fixing screws (B3 x 5) and remove theExtract PWB stopper assembly.
4. While the eject levers are opened as shown in theillustration, insert the plug-in board into the boardguide rail.

1-4-2. Installing the Connector Board
1. Remove the two screws (B3 x 5) and remove the blankpanel.nStore the removed blank panel in a safe place.
5. While closing the eject levers in the direction of arrow1, push in the plug-in board.
6. Attach the extract PWB stopper assembly and the frontpanel by reversing the installation steps of 2, 3.

4. Push the portion of the HK-PSU04 marked by thearrow and insert the HK-PSU04 into deep end as far asit will go.
5. Secure the HK-PSU04 with the two screws removed instep 3.
6. Attach the PS cover and the front panel by reversingthe installation steps of 1, 2.
1-4-4. Installing the Software Options
For the installation procedure of the software options BZS-6250/6300/6420/6540M/6550M, refer to the MVS-6000System User’s Guide.
1-4-3. Installing the HK-PSU04
The HK-PSU04 is used after it is installed in the MVS-6000.nBefore installing the HK-PSU04, be sure to turn off themain power. If the HK-PSU04 is installed while the mainpower is turned on, it can result in electrical shock ordamage to printed circuit boards.
Installation procedure1. Remove the front panel of the MVS-6000.
(Refer to Section 1-4-1.)2. Remove the two screws (B3 x 5) fixing the PS cover,
and remove the PS cover.3. Remove the two screws (PSW3 x 6) fixing the blank
panel to the location where the HK-PSU04 is going tobe installed. Then remove the blank panel.nStore the removed blank panel in a safe place.

1-5. Rack Mounting
The MVS-6000 is mounted in the 19-inch standard rack. Tomount the MVS-6000 in the rack, use the specified rackmount kit and follow the procedure described below.
Specified rack mount kit : RMM-10nIf other than the specified rack mount kit is used, the unitmay not be mounted in the 19-inch standard rack.

1. Precautions for Rack Mounting
w. To prevent the rack from falling or moving, fix the rack on
a flat and steady floor and the like using bolts or others.If the rack falls due to the weight of the equipment, it maycause death or serious injury.
. Be sure to use the specified rack mount kit.If not, injury may result and the equipment may fall dueto insufficient strength.
. After rack mounting, be sure to tighten the screws on therack angle and fix the unit in the rack.If the screws on the rack angle are not tightened, the unitmay slip from the rack and fall, causing injury.
cWhen mounting the unit in the rack, note the following:. Be sure to mount in the rack with two persons or more.. Be careful not to catch your fingers or hands in the rack
mount rail or others.. Mount in the rack in a stable position.
nIf several units are mounted in a rack, it is recommended toinstall a ventilation fan to prevent temperature rise insidethe rack.
2. Rack Mounting Procedure
This section describes the rack mounting procedure usingthe RMM-10 rack mount kit.
1. Loosen the four screws (PS4 x 8) and remove the fourfeet.
2. Attach the rack tool to the side of the equipment usingthe specified six screws.nUse B4 x 6 screws.Tighten the screws to the following torque.Tightening torque : 120 x 10_2 N.m {12.2 kgf.cm}

5. Tighten the screws (B4 x 6 : two screws each on theright and left) for adjusting the length of the adaptercompletely (the screws that were loosened in step 3).
6. Remove the front panel of the equipment.(Refer to Section 1-4-1.)
7. Align the groove of the rack tool at the side of theequipment with the rail, and slide the equipment to therear.nThe rack tools are hooked on the rails as shown below.
8. Fix the rack angle in the rack using the specifiedscrews.
9. Attach the front panel to the equipment.(Refer to Section 1-4-1.)

3. Loosen the screws on the rear of the right and leftadapters and adjust the length of the adapter accordingto the depth of the rack.(The illustration below shows the left adapter.)

The main power of the MVS-6000 cannot beturned on. (Indicator does not light green.)

2-3. About the Data Backup Capacitor
A large capacitor is installed on the CA-54C board andCA-54CFE board in order to retain the data such as theresume data, snapshots, and effects in the MVS-6000machine.Leave the main power of the MVS-6000 turned on for twohours or longer in order to charge this capacitor. The datais retained for about three days when the capacitor is fullycharged under normal operating temperature and humidity.However, this period may vary depending on the storageenvironment. Be sure to save necessary data in an externalmedia.
2. FanMVS-6000 is air-cooled by the fans (on both sides).If dust has accumulated in the intake of the fan, air isprevented from flowing smoothly and this may result in atemperature rise inside the machine. This may have anadverse effect on performance and the life of the machine.Cleaning of the fan every month is recommended.Contact your local Sony Sales Office/Service Center forinformation on cleaning the fan.
2-2-2. Cleaning
1. Front panelThe filter on the rear of the front panel can easily accumu-late the dust. Be sure to remove dust by cleaning asfollows.(1) Remove the front panel. (Refer to Section 1-4-1.)(2) Remove the dust accumulated on the filter with a
vacuum cleaner.nCleaning the filter by washing in water is recommend-ed when there is a heavy accumulation of dust.Be sure to dry the filter completely after it has beenwashed.
