Multi-jet domestic water meters
Multi-jet meters
General data
R+S domestic water meters are multi-jetturbine water meters. The construction andconnection dimensions are in accordance withDIN ISO 4064 and DIN 19684, Section 3. Diffe-rent types are available:
Series MNK is used as a wet dial meter for coldwater up to 30°C (safe up to 50°C). For verticalpipes the models are available as ascendingpipeline meters and as descending pipelinemeters (MNK-ST / MNK-F).
The MNK-RP meter has a special characteristic. The roller counters are completely encasedand are surrounded by a protective fluid.
Our multi-jet domestic water meters are alsoavailable as dry dial meters for cold and warmwater (MTK, MTW), in a pulse version or forascending and descending pipelines (MTKI, MTK-ST, MTK-F).
R+S measuring inserts can be fittedinto all standard water meter bodies.

Quality assurance andapproval
Type MNK water meters can be used inaccordance with DIN 2401 up to an operatingpressure of 16 bar (ue). We have tested allcertified meters with a test pressure of over20 bar.
We keep an archive of the pressure testdocument and the certification values under themeter number for as long as the calibrationremains valid.
Operating range / Limits ofcalibration and accuracy
Characteristic features
The bodies consist of a brass alloy, are precision-cast and highly accurately machined on NC-machines. They are protected internally andexternally by a special paint or an epoxy coating. All interior paints and materials have been testedand conform to the regulations of the GermanFederal Health Authority.
Calibration is carried out on the inlet side byregulating the bypass flow. Due to certainmeasuring techniques, the strainer has beeninstalled in the inlet section in such a way as toprevent it from rotating. In contrast to a centralstrainer, this design does not cause falsemeasurements when there is unevencontamination. The filter can be easily replacedwithout damaging the calibration seal. Meters witha central strainer will be delivered only if explicitlydesired by the customer.
For over 30 years we have guaranteed maximumprecision for the MNK series (and also MNK-RP), and due to further refinement almost allmeters are now available in class C.
The dry dial version has been implemented witha magnetic coupling in accordance with thelatest state-of-the-art technology.
We use especially abrasion-resistant andcorrosion-proof materials which are characterisedby their low susceptibility to deposits. We cantherefore also assure high operationalreliability.
The high head ring and the use of mineral glassoffer additional benefits:Higher bursting pressure due to the thickness ofthe glass guarantees a long service life. Acounter glass made of plastic is also available onrequest. This offers additional benefits comparedto the real glass model: The surface of the glass isflush with the head ring and is therefore easy to
clean. The convex inner shape of the glassallows trapped air bubbles to drift to the edge ofthe glass and not to the star wheel. The formationof algae is almost completely prevented due tothe UV filtration effect of the plastic face.

Meter inserts
Compensating meter insert The compensating meter insert offers automaticcompensation of the error. This compensationensures that the accuracy curve does not creepwhen used for extended periods in contaminatedwater. It meets all requirements for extending theduration of the validity of calibration by 3 years inaccordance with the weights and measuresregulation. The turbine housing has beenredesigned, resulting in an overall reduction ofhead loss.
Patent No.: EP 0 479 879
R+S meter inserts are already used bymore than 20 manufacturers and test sites. Thedevelopment is based on the constructionprinciple of WVG-body types introduced in 1934.With the use of adapter rings our inserts can befitted to almost all standard European watermeter bodies.
A further development of the WVG type is thefluidic innovative R+S body Qn 1.5 up toQn 10. Special meter inserts, sizes Qn 6 to Qn 10,in R+S bodies exhibit a particularly lowstarting flow.
The turbine, the bearing axis of whichpasses through its centre of gravity, is madeof an abrasion-resistant material with a specificgravity of less than 1g/cm³. This causes theturbine to float in the water and to put hardly any
load on the pin bearing of the turbine. Our mo-dern precision-injection techniques keepimbalance to a minimum.
The inlet and outlet channels are arrangedsymmetrically and tangentially. This prevents thebearing pivot from being unilaterlly loaded incontrast to other constructions. The large numberof inlet and outlet channels causes highmeasuring sensitivity and guarantees a largemeasuring range, which is achieved in particularby the stepped channels introduced byR+S.
The meter insert has a reduced diameter in theproximity of the outlet channels. This creates alarger space between the counter and the body. This smaller diameter optimises the flowcharacteristics and thereby considerably reducesthe head loss.

The MNK-series roller counters are encased which means that they can be readfor a long time even if floating particles have become deposited with time.
We use particularly large counter rollers so that the numbers can beeasily read.
In the case of conventional counters there is a risk of the axle saggingduring long periods of disuse. In order to prevent this, we fit
particularly strong roller axles.
We deliberately use relatively thin gear wheels. Thisremoves the risk of dirt becoming deposited between
the flanks and affecting the measurement result.
The MNK-RP series counters are a speciality. Inspite of encased rollers, deposits can still settle in
MNK series counters on the rollers and on thewhole level of the digit face over the years.
We have developed an absolutelyhermetically sealed counter. The
digit rollers are accommodated in achamber of their own which is
filled with a special protectivefluid. Similarly, no water, and
therefore no floatingparticles, can settle on the
level of the digit face. This ensures that the
counter can alwaysbe read -
irrespective ofthe water
quality.

Multi-jet wet dial meters
The most up-to-date injection mouldingtechniques and continuous checks carried out byour quality assurance departments guaranteemaximum precision and quality in our mult-jet turbine meters.
Structural details, such as the design of theturbine wheels, result in considerably improvedrotational accuracy compared to multi-pieceturbines, which put load on the bearings. Thebenefit for you is outstanding stability ofmeasurement over many years.
All moving parts have a low density. Combinedwith the careful arrangement of the bearings andturbine, this guarantees a minimum moment offriction and a long service life.
The meters have been designed for use in coldwater up to 30°C (safe up to 50°C). They areavailable in sizes Qn 1.5 to Qn 15. Qn 1.5 to Qn10 are also available in class C. Operatingpressure PN 16.
Our multi-jet turbines have meanwhile beentried and tested a million times over, evenunder difficult conditions.
The continuous further development of this seriesguarantees that you can be sure of receiving atop-grade product which is always state-of-the-art.In the future too, the meters will be adapted tomeet the demands required of them; for examplethe MNKI pulse-type multi-jet wet dial meter.

Multi-jet wet dial meters
Now, at long last, multi-jet wet dial meters, withtheir outstanding metrological characteristics, arealso available as pulse-type models. A pulsercan be added on at any time while still allowingthe meter to be easily read.
Meters prepared in this way are ideal for beingconnected at any time to central recordingsystems, such as M-Bus systems or radiowave modules. This allows you the possibility ofcombining traditional measuring technology withthe most up-to-date data acquisition.
The pulsers can, of course, be sealedindependently of each other and can be replacedon site without damaging the calibration seal.
To protect them against external magneticinterference, the pulsers can have an additionalreed contact fitted to them if required by meansof which any manipulation can be detected. Bothversions are fitted with a protective resistor on the
sides of the pulser as standard (see circuitdiagrams).

Multi-jet wet dial meter
Modern multi-jet wet dial meters, such as ourMNK series, all have encased roller counterstoday. However, over time floating particles stillpenetrate as deposits both on the counter face andon the digit rollers, and in the worst cases themeters can only be read with difficulty. A remedy isprovided by the new MNK-RP meter series, ameter with a hermetically sealed roller chamber(see close-up). All moving parts are located withina transparent plastic cover which at the same timeacts as the retainer for the digit rollers. Thechamber is filled with a special protective fluid.Since the digit rollers can no longer come intocontact with water or deposits, the meter canalways be read, even if the water is heavily soiled

or contains a lot of iron. The series MNK-RPmeters are therefore the ideal alternative in allcases where it was previously often impossible totake readings. Just as with series MNK, the metersare available both with a real glass cover and alsowith plastic glass. The plastic glass is available intwo different versions:
m offset meter glass with bonded viewingwindow (MNK-RP)
m bonded meter glass without viewing window(MNK-RP-LDE)

Series MNK-RP (type LDE) now also includes apulse version. This means that the completerange of multi-jet meters is available with pulserswhich can be retrofitted or replaced. As is thecase with all versions, the MNK-RPI series is alsoprepared with a ring-shaped magnetic pointer asstandard for this task.
Remote reading or connection to our M-Bussystem radio-wave and counter modules areno longer a problem for this series.
In the same way as with the single-jet and multi-jet dry dial meters, the same pulsers are used inthe MNK and MNK-RP series. In the case of allgenerators, it is possible to register any attemptat manipulation by means of a secondary switchsystem (see circuit diagrams).
