Issues
Late Revision of cooking norms (with effect from 30.09.2011). Poor Utilization of Food Grains in Urban Areas Bangalore(U) and Dharwad. In district Raichur 11% ,district Bidar 11%, in Davanagere 32% schools and
in Uttara Kannada district there was interruption in the midday meal in the schools for a period of 3-6 days due to non-supply of gas or due to the no stock of food grains.
Majority of the schools (63.2 per cent) have indicated that they have not got
one month buffer stock.
The food grains are not delivered to the school in 3% of the schools and
some times the extent of delay varies from 1 week to 15 days.
Contd…
It was found that 13% of the schools are not getting the cooking cost in
advance regularly which can lead to stopping of MDM.
Menu is not displayed in any of the schools.
Variety is followed to some extent, if possible more variety may be brought in
the type of food.
The use of dal and vegetables seems to be in limited quantity during the time
of visit by MI officials to schools
Uniformity and regularity may be maintained in appointment of cooks/helpers
as well as their payment.
Cont…Cont…
Ministry of HRD, Govt. of IndiaMinistry of HRD, Govt. of India
MDM has been inspected at state level in only 5% of the schools.
School getting MDM from centralised kitchen managed by an NGO, which
supplies to 10 other schools it takes about 30 to 45 minutes to reach the
school. As MDM is an important activity of the school, as far as possible
arrangement should be made to cook food in the school itself .
There is one school having reservation about the quality of food grain
received.
Less number of Approved NCLP children covered.
