Key dates Principal’s report
Dear Parents and Caregivers
We commenced this week with a visit from Allendale Primary
School, Western Australia. Their school staff are in NSW on a
study trip and learning about the transformation of our school,
along with a few others. It’s wonderful to share our journey with
other educators. Teaching is a collaborative profession where
schools are constantly learning from each other in order to
improve their practice. This Wednesday, NSW Department of
Education Deputy Secretary Ms Leslie Loble is visiting our school.
Our school has wonderful facilities and resources for our students to support their
learning. The refurbishment of our playground continued with the installation of a
new newcomball court last week, followed by the first PSSA game on it. Likewise,
netballers played with confidence on the new court for the first time. It was
wonderful to see students playing on surfaces that are specifically designed for
sport.
Beyond PSSA, the playground provides many opportunities for students to
participate in active activities and sport. On Wednesday each week, the Stage 1
students (Year 1 and Year 2) have tabloid sports that has a specific focus on gross
motor skills – that is, jumping, running, hopping, skipping, catching and throwing.
Stage 2 and 3 students (Years 3-6) are using the playground each morning for the
first 15 minutes in a fitness program that is part of the Premier’s Sporting
Challenge.
Additional maintenance work is planned for our school. The gutter on the Stage 3
balcony has dropped and will eventually be replaced. The remaining asphalt area is
due to be resurfaced with synthetic rubber at the end of the term and during the
next school vacation.
The Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) sells school uniforms in the morning
on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 7.45am and 8.30am. The wearing of a
school uniform in our school is compulsory and reflects a sense of belonging. Over
the past fortnight, I have spoken to a number of students wearing jumpers other
than the school colours and arranged replacements for them due to financial
hardship.
Not all learning occurs at school. Excursions play a vital part of our extra-curricula
programs to support students’ learning. The Kindergarten excursion to Calmsley
Hill City Farm on Tuesday was highly successful and provided opportunities for
students to learn about farm animals in an authentic way. The excursion now forms
the basis of their class work.
Last week, our Year 3 and Year 5 students completed NAPLAN using a pencil and paper test without any glitches. Next year, it is anticipated that our school will be moving to the online version.
All Kindergarten students will go home today with a set of Duplo purchased from Good360. This is a great organisation that allows schools and charity organisations to purchase goods at greatly reduced prices. We are very fortunate to be a part of
their partnership.

Stage 3 History Project
by Michelle and Millen (Stage 3)
Stage 3 is currently working on a history project where they will have to research and present information in the format of a news report, a play or an interview. The topics could be about the
First Fleet, the Gold Rush, the Eureka Stockade, the Rum Rebellion or the Chinese migration in the 1850’s. We are learning about this so we can uncover the mistakes of the past so we can make better decisions in the future and also learn about how these events helped shape Australia today.
Stage 3 Minecraft Project
Stage 3 students are building a sustainable and inclusive aerotropolis in Minecraft for the Liverpool City Council Minecraft Competition. The purpose is to build the new airport at Badgerys Creek and help design the city of the future.
Why do you like Minecraft?
“I like it because you can use it for fun and in the real world” – Larissa
“I like Minecraft because it is a fun and educational way to learn in class” - Cate
What are you building and what materials are you building with?
“I am building the aerospace institute and I have been using the stained glass and the quartz” - Mikayla
SCHOOL News
Early Stage 1 Excursion On Tuesday, Early Stage 1 visited Calmsley Hill City Farm where we were learnt all about the way farms work and where our food comes from. There were all sorts of animals from chickens, ducks and turkeys to cows, sheep and pigs. We were lucky enough to walk through and touch the sheep and goats. It was the first time some of us had ever seen a goat.
We found out that some dogs have jobs! By running around, they could move sheep anywhere the farmer wanted them to go. One farmer showed us how to shear a sheep and another farmer showed us how to crack a whip. Mrs You and some children gave
it a try (it was not as easy as the farmer made it look). We all got to milk a cow and we learnt that milk doesn't just come from the supermarket! One of the highlights of our day was the tractor ride. It was so fast and bumpy. Our excursion was a fantastic learning experience for Early Stage 1.
