Mean
• Mean is an average found by using division. The items in data set are added together, and then the sum is divided by the numbers of items.
• Step 1: Add all the numbers together.• Step 2: Then divide the sum by how many
numbers there are.• Step 3: Then you will get your answer.
EX. 3,4,7,1,6
1. 3+4+7+1+6= 21
2. 21/5= 4.2
Median
• Median is the middle number in an ordered data set.
• Step 1: List the numbers from least to greatest or greatest to least.
• Step 2: Find the number in the middle.• Step 3: If there is no median find the mean of the
two middle numbers.• Ex. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
3 is your Median
Mode
• Mode is the number that occurs most often in a data set.
• Step 1: Look at the numbers, look to see if any occur more than once.
• Step 3: Then that number is your Mode.• EX. 2, 3, 7, 4, 7
7 is your Mode
Range
• Range is the difference between the highest number and the lowest number.
• Step 1: You put the numbers in order from least to greatest.
• Step 2: You subtract the littlest number from the biggest number. That is your Range.
• Ex. 3, 2, 4, 7, 10

2. 10 – 2= 8
Box And Whisker Plot
• In a box and whisker plot the MEDIAN is used to find the number in the middle of the box and whisker plot.
• In a box and whisker plot, RANGE is used to find the difference between the highest and lowest number of the box and whisker plot.
