Matthew 24:1-8

“Watch Out That No One Deceives You”

Matthew 24:1-15

1 Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you,

not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” 3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives,

the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?"

Micah 3:12

“Therefore, on account of you Zion will be plowed as a field,

Jerusalem will become a heap of ruins…”

Mark 13:3-4

“As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew were questioning Him

privately, ‘Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are

going to be fulfilled?’”

(1) When shall these things be?

(2) What shall be the sign of your coming?

(3) And of the end of the world?

Luke 21:7

They questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, when therefore will

these things happen? And what will be the sign when these things

are about to take place?”

Barclay

1 . There would be the danger of false leaders. A false leader is a man who

seeks to propagate his own version of the truth rather than the truth as it is in Jesus Christ; and a man who tries to

attach other men to himself rather than to Jesus Christ. (Vs. 1-8)

2. The second danger is that of discouragement. There are those whose

love will grow cold because of the increasing lawlessness of the world. (Vs.

8-15)

“This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will

come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into

heaven.”

Titus 2:11-14

“We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look

forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make

us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.”

Barclay

“It expresses the fact that history is going somewhere…the Second Coming has in it this essential truth—that there is “one divine far-

off event, to which the whole creation moves,” …the universal and eternal rule of

God.”

2 Peter 3:10-12

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will

disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you

look forward to the day of God and speed its coming…”

13:40-42

"So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send forth His angels,

and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and

those who commit lawlessness, and will throw them into the

furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of

teeth.”

“The Sign of Your Coming”

Vs. 4-5

"Take heed that no one deceives you.”

“Take heed” mean “beware”, and stresses watchfulness and vigilance.

1 John 2:18-26

Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is

coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last

hour…These things I have written to you concerning those who are

trying to deceive you.

2 Timothy 4:3-4

“For the time will come when men will not put up with sound

doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather

around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn

their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”

1 Corinthians 6:9-10

“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the

kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither

fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor

homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor

revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.”

Ephesians 5:5-6

“For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person

or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words,

for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons

of disobedience.”

Vs. 6-8

“See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.”

2 Thessalonians 2:8-9

“Then the man of lawlessness will be revealed, but the Lord Jesus

will kill him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by the

splendor of his coming. This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs

and miracles.”

“A key phrase in this verse comforts all believers: see to it that you are not alarmed. As political situations worsen, as wars ravage the

world, Jesus’ disciples and all his followers should not be afraid that somehow God has

lost control or that His promises will not come true. Just as false messiahs and religious

frauds come and go, so do political and natural crises. Even when the world seems to be in chaos, God is in control. Such things must

happen as part of God’s divine plan.”

“but the end is not yet…All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have

peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I

have overcome the world.”
