MATTER
1. What is it?
• Anything that takes up space (volume) and has
(mass).
• Matter is made up of one or more of over 92 naturally
occurring elements • Each element is a pure substance, made up of only one type
of atom
• Example
• Yorkie, Cat, Tree, You etc.
• Not Matter • Heat, Light, etc.
2. How do we measure how much matter?
• Mass: How much to we have? • NOT its Weight!
• in grams, centigrams, kilograms
• Volume: Dimensions • length x width x height
• In cubic centimeters (ccs) or milliliters (ml)
• Density: how compact/solid is it • Measured in g/ml or g/cc

• Suspensions: Shake Well Before Using!

a. Particles are bigger, you can see the path of the light going through
3. Suspensions
a. Particles are very big light wont pass through and you have to keep
shaking them to keep them in suspension. A lot of medicines are
suspensions.
IF IT SAYS “SHAKE WELL BEFOR USING.” IT IS A SUSPENSION.
