About our Maths activities

Mental Maths startersChoose one of the challenges to complete. These should be quick

starters lasting about 5 minutes.

ActivitiesWe have included some different activities for each day. You can

choose whether you would like to do the ‘Activity Time’ or the Maths No Problem workbook pages. We are now using Maths No Problem

Book 2You do not need to complete both the Activity Time and the Maths No

Problem workbook pages (unless you would like to!).

How many different totals can you make using these numbers?Maybe you could try adding three or even all four numbers together.

Monday Starter

Use this time to discuss:

How many flowers are there in total?

What is the problem asking us to do – add or subtract?

How do you know?

We can use the picture to help us count on from 8 to find the answer.

Activity Time!Choose one of the problems to solve. Is it asking you to add or subtract?

You could draw pictures or use a number line to help you find the answer. Circle the key information you need to use. Remember to write the

number sentence for the number problem.

There were 7 stars in space. An alien spaceship zapped 3 away! How many stars were left?

Jim had 12 sweets. Lee gave him 4 more. How many sweets has Jim got now?

Tom had 26 cars. Jen gave him 12 more. How many cars has he got now?
