Materials: Pasco Light Machine and a Sheet of Graph Paper, reflective surface, concave lens, convex lens

Turn on the Light Machine. Observe the light ray.

Line up the machine, and aim a “beam” directly as shown toward the reflective surface

Now, aim the beam through a concave lens.

Which way does the light travel before is hits the lens?

Which way does the light travel after it hits the lens?

Which way does the light THROUGH the lens?

Is the light travelling at the same angle before and after the lens?

Align the incoming ray on graph paper.

Trace with a pencil.

And use a protractor to confirm your answer

Is this an example of reflection or refraction.

Define both terms!

Set the Pasco Sensor for two rays of light

Describe the resulting light rays after they pass through a concave lens.

Is this reflection?

On your graph paper, trace the rays of light before and after the lens as it appears in your experiment.

Label the lens and the rays of light.

Describe the resulting light rays after they pass through a CONVEX lens.

Is this reflection?

On your graph paper, trace the rays of light before and after the lens as it appears in your experiment.

Label the lens and the rays of light.

How did the light rays compare when using a Concave verses a Convex lens?

Is this a concave or convex?

How do you know?
