MEETING ONE SUMMARY
MEETING DATE Tuesday, April 8, 2014 VOTING SELECTION PANELISTS David Froehlich, Landscape Architect, DPW Glen Helfand, Independent writer, critic, curator, and educator Michael Helquist, Community representative Aimee LeDuc, Executive Director, Berkeley Art Center Christina Linden, Associate Curator of Painting & Sculpture, Oakland Museum of California Barbara Sklar, Arts Commissioner PROCESS Round One: The panel reviewed the portfolios of 16 artists from the 2013/14 Prequalified Artist Pool selected by SFAC staff. The panel scored each of the 16 artists 1-10 (1=low score) on the following criteria:
Artistic excellence
Appropriateness of the artist’s work for site Round One voting yielded 9 semifinalists whose scores fell within a competitive range. Round Two: The panel discussed the semifinalists and ranked them in order of preference 1-9 (1=highest rank). Round Two ranking yielded three finalists and one alternate to recommend to the Arts Commission to make proposals for the art opportunity. RESULTS: The following artists/artist teams were selected as finalists with the highest ranking: Jenny Heishman 13 Scott Oliver 15 Emily White and Jenna Didier 22 Alternate: Michael Arcega 27 ARTS COMMISSION APPROVAL: Motion to approve the selected finalists; Jenny Heishman, Scott Oliver, and Emily White and Jenna Dider, with Michael Arcega as an alternate, as recommended by the Masonic Avenue Streetscape Improvements Project Selection Panel to develop conceptual proposals for the Masonic Avenue Streetscape Improvements Project.
