The next time youpass a Klingon onthe street, stop himand ask him what

he thinks of Star Trek.Odds are, he’ll tell youhe’s concerned. As I typethis, JJ Abrams is lockedaway working on a com-plete reboot of the originalscience fiction franchise, and no one seems entirelysure what to think of it.

Part of the problem isthat Paramount hasn’treally seemed to knowhow to market it.Normally with a high-pro-file movie like this youstart building buzz early, whether it be throughviral campaigns or produc-tion blogs. The idea is toget the decades anddecades worth of fans thatthe franchise in questionhas on board with you.Paramount’s answer tothat has been to hand outposters… bad posters. That’s their entire plan toreach out to fans. Handingout rather boring, two-tone posters. If youhaven’t seen them, wellthat's one there to yourright and you can clickover to our Star TrekImage Gallery for more ofthem.

I can’t see anybody hang-ing any of those on theirwall even a year from now. They’ve released a total of11 posters for the film, 3teaser posters and 8 char-acter posters, and not oneof them is really any good.

Tonight, I stumbled on aperfect example of whatthey should really bedoing for this film. Theposter below is gorgeous,eye-popping fan art creat-ed by a user on Deviantartthat goes under the nameof Tanman. I’ve postedsome examples of greatteaser posters from StarTrek movies of the past.Compare, and tell me

which poster you think fitsbetter with Star Trek. Thegorgeous, painted lookingimage below, or this. mon-

strosity. This is the kind ofposter Paramount shouldbe doing, heck it’s the kindof marketing they should

be doing. Take a lookParamount, and whenyou’re considering yournext PR move, consider

doing more of this, and alot less of this. Ask anyKlingon. You know whichposter they’d prefer.

The Star Trek Poster That Should Have Been

Tanman’s (Mark Storey, UK Artist) Star Trek XI Teaser Poster making headlines over the net.

Felstef Says: August 23rd, 2008 at 02:10The fan created poster is the best one. Star Trek posters always included Kirk and Spock (when aplicable) some where on them and the Enterprise. Paramount needs to use this

format if the new Trek film is to succeed.

Gerberette Says: August 25th, 2008 at 23:34When I go to the theater next year to see the movie,

I want to see Tanman's poster on the wall larger than life! It just screams ADVENTURE tome. It's got a story to tell and I've been feeling a bit nostalgic lately for some "original" ST.

Another Poster Design by UK Artist Mark Storey

Peter Sciretta: Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Cinemablend found this awesome fancreated poster for JJ Abrams’ StarTrek, which is actually ten times betterthan the recently released character

one-sheets (for the record I want to say that Iloved the first teaser poster which was released atComic Con a couple years ago).

The poster was created by UK artist MarkStorey. You can check out more of his art onhis Deviant Art profile page.

This is better then what the studio approved.

Chris Says: August 22nd, 2008I like it.. And I have to agree also that it is better than the official stuff.

Ender Says: August 22nd, 2008With a little bit of tweaking, I think this should be the movie’s official poster.

You gotta hand it this Deviant Artuser...he's created a Star Trek posterthat captures all the crunchy sf good-ness of past Trek films. This looks

way better than the official posters that camefrom boring ol' Hollywood. Yay Internets!

Son of Sarek - August 27, 2008 Those posters are glorious. Now when will we see the full trailer?

John Pemble - August 27, 2008 Mark Storey’s work is excellent. Hope this is what he does for a living.

Buckaroohawk - August 27, 2008 Those faux movie posters are astounding! They have that TOS flavor, but they look very much like the posters for some of the TNG films. Here’s hoping the real one-sheets are half as evocative as theseare. The creative energy and talent of Trek fans never, ever ceases to amaze me!

Matthew_Briggsuk - August 27, 2008 I totally agree from things like thses posters which i find sublime to other art work and the fan films, trek fans have such talent well apart from me who can’t draw a starigh line lol

Doug in Kabul, Afghanistan - August 28, 2008 I think Storey’s artistic musings are well done and intriguing. They seem, to me, to be reminiscent of some of the artwork that preceded Star Trek - The Motion Picture (still my fav of all the TREK films).Well done, Mark, says me!

The Last Maquis - August 27, 2008 These works of art are inspiring. That Kicks Major ass. excellent.

Dennis Bailey - August 27, 2008 As art, those are great posters. They don’t really convey any excitement about the movie, though, because they’re very much like the posters for the old Star Trek movies.
