A Message from the 2012-2013 District 33 Governor
J esse Oakley I-I-I, DTM
People of District 33,
I need your help!!
I need your help in making sure that District 33 goes BeyondDistinguished for the 2012-2013 year.
We have a chance to make this happen. Every club, every are
and every Division in this District has a chance to reach
Distinguished goals by June 30, 2013
We do not have to wait until June 30th to become Distinguished, we can start right
now!!
For the 180+ Toastmasters clubs in this District, all you have to do is focus your
target on the Distinguished Club Program. If you have five more members than you
had on July 1, 2012, you are close to being Distinguished. If not, remember that IT
AIN’T JUNE 30TH YET!!
For the 38 Areas in this District, all you have to do is encourage your clubs to reach
these Distinguished goals. If you have strong clubs that are able to do this, that’s
great!! If you have rebuilding clubs that facing challenges, do your best to help them
along. With the many resources that this District has to offer, we can be victorious in
every Toastmasters club.
For the 8 Divisions in this District, all you have to do is encourage your Areas and
Clubs by ensuring they have limitless success ahead of them. Whether it is by Club
Coach, C.R.A.F.T., the Distinguished programs, or any other vehicle, please do you
best to use every intention to get your communities on the road to success.
For the 1 District, all we have to do is stay the course, focus on our goals, and do
every best possible way to support our members. Together, we can go beyond
Distinguished on ALL levels. District 33, let’s make it happen!!

2012 - 2013
Division A Governor
Greetings! This is a praiseworthytribute to my Area Governors. They
constitute the A-T.E.A.M. —
Toastmasters Engaged AndMotivated! They are dedicatedindividuals committed to TI and our District 33 Leaders. Their careers
range from Attorney at Law, Educator,Nursing, and Military. All are goal
oriented people dedicated to service of others. For them, I take a bow and
salute. To these great people, I owe adebt of gratitude for their distinguishedservice first as Area Governors, then as
Toastmasters!
Division A has 25 paid clubs, membership growth of 70, and
currently 335 members strong. We areconcentrating our efforts in spreadingthe good news about Toastmasters — the seed for launching new clubs. We’re hosting numerous speechcrafts
and as Area Governors begin secondrounds of visits to bring clubs toPresident’s Distinguished status.
Not without challenges, which do notdefine us, we find they inspire us to
remain solution-focused andresolution-driven. They areopportunities for leadership. Thank
you to our district leaders for their forward thinking and leadership by
example.
What pleasure to serve and work witha host of upstanding and outstanding
people we call Toastmasters. For this Iam grateful!

Division B Governor
We are more than half way through the
year, and the members of Division B are
“Achieving Personal Success” to proudly
finish this Toastmaster year. Every member
is pursuing their personal best by
participating in club activities and plans.
Club and Area Contests are progressing,
while we look forward to the best of the
best at the Division B Contest on April
13th, on our march to the District 33
Conference in Modesto, May 3 & 4.
The Area Governors worked up to the last
day to make sure every club had the
opportunity to get officers trained with
almost 100% receiving DCP credit. They
are beginning their club visits with
enthusiasm to stimulate & revitalize
members to re-visit their personal goals and
complete their next educational level
before June 30.
We are busy studying the realignments
necessary to effectively balance our clubs
and areas, with a committee (chaired by
Herb Nowlin, DTM, PID), to determine if
Division B should be divided.
The Division B Speakers’ Bureau will soon
be a reality. Richard Baumann, DTM, is
chairing this project with plans to have it
automated on the District 33 website (under
the Division B portal) where members and
the public will be able to register for a
speaker-event match.
The Division B TLI is scheduled for June
22, 2013. (more details soon.)

Division E Governor
Division E is leading the pack and
setting the pace to become a
distinguished division, helping many
clubs to be distinguished, andsupporting all the members’ personal
successes.
The last set of officer trainings were
very well attended and received. A
highlight was a table topics contest
with contestants from 8 clubs. Division
E has 25 paid clubs, 478 total
members, 141 new members, and a net
gain of 9 members so far. One new
club has formed: Toastmasters atUCSB. We hope to charter another
club before the end of the year.
Division E has 18 CC's. 10 AC's, 4
CL's, 3 AL's, 2 HPL's, 2 DTM's, and 1
AS.
In the spirit of Division E's core values
of great leadership, fun and teamwork,
a town hall meeting was held in

in a session lead by District
Parliamentarian Herb Nowlin, DTM,

Thanks to the great effort of the 6 area

enthusiasm in the clubs, and when the
reports are in and the dust settles at the
end of June, we will have a great deal
to celebrate!

Division G Governor
We are having a great gala of fun in Division G. Our 1st
Contests went grand and the next ones are planned so that all our glorious Area Governors can go to all contests. We feel that it is important to supp
each other. We are working together to make the Division Contest gigantic.
I am so excited that we have 84 new members in Division G. That is really gargantuan and really shows hogreat our clubs are. It also means that we only have to get 16 more new members to have the 100 nmembers I promised our gallant District Governor.
Our TLI was groovy. Dana LaMon was our keynote speaker and was so outstanding. With people l
Dana, Paul Smith, Janemarie, Jas, Dale, Diana, and so many wonderful people in our Division, it is no wondeverything we do is gallant, glorious, grandiose, great, galactic, and downright groovy. They have made Year as Division G Governor a year of good memories and joy.
I would not be completely fair, if I left out my spouse, Wayne. Let’s face it, without a supportive spouse a
office for any organization would be a heavy load and not very much fun.
I want to let everyone in District 33 know how blessed I feel to be part of the greatest team in the world. T
people of District 33, the people of my team of Area Governors, and the wonderful people of Division G, amy family. What more could a person ask for.
Let get them strawberries, team Division G!

Division D Governor Candidate
Guy Dawson ACS, ALB
It is truly an honor and a privilege to be considered for the position of Division D Governor in District 33. M
journey in Toastmasters over the last 5 years has been magical, and continuing to be of service to our
organization at the district level will allow me to share what has been so freely given to me. Being a toastm
has opened doors for me that I never even knew existed.
I feel that I am qualified to be the Division D Governor because of my commitment to the betterment of
Toastmasters through service to its members. In my years in Toastmasters, I have served as VP of Education
VP of Public Relations for my home club Windjammers numerous times. These roles have given me a
perspective on leadership that has been enormously beneficial as my service responsibilities have expanded.
I am currently the President of the Nevada Holistic Chamber of Commerce Toastmasters, a club that I helped
re-charter almost a year ago. Starting a Toastmasters club from scratch has been a challenging and gratifying
experience.
As the Area D2 Governor, I have gained a greater understanding of how Toastmasters works and the lessons
have learned will certainly benefit me as a Division Governor.
I am prepared to give Toastmasters all I have as the District 33 Division D Governor

IMPROVED DIGITAL COMMUNICATION – Face-to-face meeare always best but, as our division expands, it has become m
difficult to keep all members informed. The solution? Imprdigital communication (email, website posting, social media
for all members.
PROMOTE COMPETENT LEADER (CL) PROGRAM – Many struggle to integrate the competent leader program with their
meetings/members. The solution? Recommendation of newlevel meeting role: Leadership Evaluator
MEMBERSHIP GROWTH – No officer term would be complwithout mentioning membership growth. But what really woFocus club VP of PRs on proven membership building camp(e.g. “bring a friend”) while also educating them on district/d

MAKING HISTORY
by
Jesse Oakley III, DTM
For the first time ever, District 33 Toastmasters conducted a District 33 Executive Committee
Webinar Meeting February 16, 2013.
District leaders from southern Nevada, central California, and Ventura County all took part in this
ground breaking event.
Due to the big time success of this webinar, don’t be surprised to see another District Executive
Committee meeting online for the 2013-2014 Toastmasters year
Each Division made an online presentation including, Distinguished Goals, Spring District
Conference, Club Challenges & Solutions, and Toastmaster Leadership Institute ideas.
Big time kudos go out to the leaders that stepped up and made this work!!
