Just as April starts us thinkingabout flowers and springtime,November has us dreaming ofturtleneck sweaters, football and,of course, turkey! We decorate thehouse with fall leaves and all ofthe lovely shades of brown as wecrank up the fireplace to keep ustoasty warm.
We are planning a wonderfulThanksgiving Feast for ourresidents and families onThanksgiving Day during lunch.Chef Vinny and his staff will havean incredible spread of all of thetraditional favorites. Please besure to make a reservation soon.
It’s tradition to show yourappreciation for others onThanksgiving, but don’t let yourdisplays of gratitude end whendinner is over. Here are someother ways to express yourthankfulness for all the goodthings in your life:
Volunteer. Finding a cause thatresonates with you is the first stepto giving back. Volunteering atyour local community or youth
center, or at events in your area, such as local charity runs, is agreat way to actively show yoursupport.
Donate. Take canned goods orother nonperishable items to ahomeless shelter or food kitchento ensure that others can enjoy aThanksgiving meal, as well.
Reflect. Alone, or with familyand friends, take a few minutes toreflect on all the blessings in yourlife. Whether big or small, remembering all that you have tobe thankful for will encourage youto pay it forward this holidayseason.
Everyone, have a wonderfulNovember!!
Take the Chill OffThe root herb ginger promotes
blood circulation. If you feel cold, eating gingerbread or other foodscontaining ginger can make youfeel warmer.

DISCOVERIESUnusual Dining Etiquette
Around the World#1- Slurping: is goodOne of our favorite Asian foods
is noodles; Pho, ramen, Udon, soba to name a few. In Japan, slurping is considered polite. It’salso an indication that the foodis good.
But be careful, slurping is notconsidered polite in all Asiancultures. In Thailand and in partsof China, it is accepted to slurp, but not really encouraged. Justknow before you go.
#2- Should you finish all thefood on your plate?
You might be surprised toknow that in some cultures, if youfinish all your food on your plate,it is a sign that your host did notprovide you with enough food.
In fact, in some cultures(Filipinos, Cambodians, Koreans,Egyptians and Thais), if you finishyour food, your host will continueto serve you each time you clearyour plate and drink your entirebeverage.
However, in Japan, finishingone’s plate and rice bowl signifiesto the host that the meal iscomplete and that you appreciatethe meal.
#3- Yes, You SHOULD Belchand Burp:
As strange as it sounds, YES, itis considered good table mannersin some cultures to belch aftera meal.
In India, Turkey and someMiddle Eastern countries and evenin parts of China, it is consideredgood manners to burp after ameal. It’s a sign of appreciationand satiety.
I’m not sure if I could bringmyself to burp at the dinner table, could you?
#4- Don’t Cut Your Salad Witha Knife in France!
Bet you didn’t know that inFrance, salads should not be cutwith a knife and fork. You shouldgently fold your lettuce leavesonto the fork and eat it.
#5- Which fork do I use?In Thai culture, you don’t use
your fork to put food in yourmouth, instead you use a fork topush your food onto your spoon.
During the Renaissance inEurope, there were no forks. Theywere as excessively refined. Formen, it was considered a sign ofeffeminacy. The custom of usingforks began in Italy, but only thewealthy could afford themthroughout the 17th century.
Don’t take these rules tooseriously; not everyone followstheir culture’s rules 100%. Whenin doubt, look around and seewhat other people are doing andjust follow suit.
