Joint partnership between the Salvation Army, Anaheim Family YMCA and Magnolia School District
Program InformationProgram Information
Open to all Magnolia School District 3rd grade students as part of their physical education program
7 to 8 thirty minute lessons provided by certified YMCA swim instructors
5:1 (or less) student to instructor ratio
Pool is supervised by certified lifeguards

Students eat lunch at school prior to departing
Students and teachers board Magnolia School District buses
Less than 3 mile trip to the newly refurbished Salvation Army Red Shield Community Center

Students are escorted to the boys and girls locker rooms where they change for their lesson

Students meet with their instructors to review pool safety and to discuss previous swim experience
Students are grouped according to ability and participate in their lessons
After the lesson, students rinse off and change before boarding the bus and heading back to school

Parents are always encouraged to visit
Students will have a special meeting prior to the program starting to review pertinent information
Students will need to bring a bathing suit and a towel
Students are welcome to wear a T-shirt in the pool
Instructional program will be adjusted to ensure that Mathematics and Reading Instruction is not compromised
