Can Switzerland be a large player ?
A country with a lot of assets : Microtechnology and sensors Low Power (micro-)electronics Software expertise Large industrial groups with worldwide exposure in many vertical segments A lot of innovation / startups around ETHZ, EPFL and HS/HE Good funding program KTI / CTI sealing partnerships between academic and industrial
entities
But slow moving compared to other countries SKT deployed LoRa over the Korea (99% coverage) in 6 months ! China / India following at same speed Discussions started in Switzerland 18 months ago ! Some companies are very active (like Orbiwise, Talkpool, IEM, …)

Barriers to Break Understanding of the digital transformation and possible impact on business models and
operation Difficulties to find own path in the forest of available standards Companies are sticking to their traditional business models with too much focus on hardware
(less than 15% of revenues in ioT). Revenue is moving to turnkey services ! Companies need to team up
• We should push initiatives to identify swiss players delivering the different pieces of the puzzle active in the various vertical segments. They should meet and cooperate !
Academic entities need to help• Developing special training programs for providing talents capable of adressing the global solutions• Training industry about technology• Developing proof of concept to speed-up adoption
That’s what HSR is doing in Raperswill !
Congratulations for this initiative !
