Seven Criteria for Living

Feeding/Eating- to obtain energy

Movement-internal and/or external

Breathing or Respiration-exchange gases with the environment

Growth and Development-Living things become larger and/or more complicated as they grow.

Sensitivity -Living things react to changes around them.

Reproduction- All living things produce young.

Excretion -All living things need to remove waste from their bodies.

Some nonliving things may show one or two of these criteria but living things will show all seven.

Nonliving things can be divided into two groups

Those which were once part of a living thing

Those which were never part of a living thing
