- Lines- Suggests direction, energy, motion and mood Example: “A Giraffe and a Half” written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein (1964).

- Shapes- simplicity or complexity, -rigidity (as in geometric shapes) or- suppleness (as in organic shapes) - The bigger a shape is in the picture, the more important it is.Example:“Madeline” written and illustrated by Ludwig Bemelmans (1939)

Colour· Color can be observed for its hue, lightness, and saturation (intense or pale).Examples:
