What have learnt so far?

Statistics show LCCC is ranked 1 out of 11 - 

• the lowest levels of unemployment

• the highest earnings

• high life expectancy scores

• high number of people with degree or higher qualification

• excellent access to key services such as hospitals, roads, rail and air

links

However

• over 1,800 people have debt issues accounting for £6million of debt

• 62% of Year 12 pupils in the district’s schools achieved five or more

GCSEs (A*to C) including English and Maths. The average across the

11 districts is 64.3%.

• about 1.54% of the current population is living in housing stress

• 11% are lone pensioners

• 7% are lone parents with dependent children

• 15% have no access to a car or van

Likes

• Good central location in NI

• Excellent education

• Good community relations

• Safe / secure area

• Good open spaces

• Shopping

• Schools and colleges  

• Good range of leisure facilities

• Operational service, e.g. bin collection

Dislikes

• Traffic issues e.g. parking and congestion

• Lack of rural transport including trains

• Missed opportunities. Better promotion of area as a tourist destination

• Struggling night time economy in Lisburn City Centre

• Wasted potential of River Lagan

• Too many housing developments

Vision

• A fully developed tourism offer centred on the Lagan Canal, Village

Heritage, Hillsborough, Castlereagh Hills

• Integrated and accessible transport throughout the new Council area

• Vibrant nightlife in city centre

• Business regeneration

• Partnership approach to problem solving and projects
