LEGEND S.MARTINHO

Alice Maia Centro Escolar de Portela Penafiel- Portugal

Martin was a soldier. The soldier Martin, was the way to town, when a great storm broke. The wind was very cold, and the soldier Martin, snuggled up in his coat....

When he was coming near the city, he saw the roadside,a very poor man, trembling with cold… He was asking for money.

Martin immediately stopped the horse. He tried a few coins in his pocket, but nothing found...

Then he had an idea: - I'll give half of my coat, the poor man.

Without hesitation, he took the sword, cut his cloak into two equal parts and gave one half to the man. And then, a miracle happened ...

The clouds disappeared and a beautiful sun appeared. That is why today, when it's sunny in November, we say that is "Summer of St. Martin."

Martin was such a good man who became a saint.Today, all we know: in his day, November 11, is a holiday and is the feast day where they share chestnuts in his honor. This feast is called Magusto.
