Materials:

Activities:After going through the presentation with the teacher and reading the story choose a character for your algebra story. You will be creating your own fraction story using voki.com.Due to the word count limitations in each voki, you may need to do a few vokis for you story to complete it. you can call them: voki1, voki 2 and so on.You may include the following :1- story about algebra (voki 1)2- the new maths words and the meaning (voki 2)3- the solution for your word problem (voki 3)Be creativeYou will be judged on the story, the choice of the character and your creativity.

The story

Once there was a fruit shop in an old town. The shop was unusual because every fruit was given a letter, usually the first letter of the name.

b aC0

p

Oranges were given the letter o, Apples were given the letter a,Pears were given the letter p,Bananas were given the letter b and so on.

One day Jonathan went shopping and forgot the list that his mum gave him. He remembered what to get but forgot how much to get.

He bought a (apples), b (bananas),o (oranges) and p (Pears). When he got home he found that he should get 3 less than a, 4 more than b and double p. When Jonathan opened the fridge to put the 3 apples he bought , he found 2 times as many apples as he bought.

1- Read the story.2- How many algebraic expressions can you find?3- Write them down.

1) a-3 When he got home he found that he should get 3 less than a, 4 more than b and double p.

2) b+43) 2p

When he opened the fridge to put the 3 apples he bought , he found 2 times as many apples as he bought.

4) 2x 3a= 6a

Now it’s your turn to make up an algebra story using voki.
