My Tunes: Music ThaT shaped My Life Max Media/Virginia Beach, VA Dir./Programming and Operations John Shomby discusses his most important songs, artists or concerts: 1. The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band: I remember the first time I heard that album; it was so different than anything else. I was basically a Top 40 kid up until that point. I started listening to full albums after that.2. The Moody Blues and The Electric Light Orchestra: I guess you can call them

symphonic rock. Each album was a concept, a story. I still listen to them.3. The Eagles: I saw them in 1977 and then just three years ago. This band really has a lot to do with my newfound love of country music. I bought their first album right after I heard “Take It Easy” as a new hit on the radio and have every one since. They have stood the test of time. Their CMA performance of “How Long” still is burned in my mind as one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen.4. Keith Urban, Richmond, 2006: Probably one of the best concerts I have ever seen. You know you’ve been to a great show when you still remember most of it three years later. Splendid guitar work and one of the hottest bands out there supporting him. His energy is just plain infectious.5. Frank Sinatra: How can you be Italian and not be influenced in some way by this man’s music? Seriously, I had a chance to see him in concert sitting in the front row in Dallas back in the 80’s; one hour of pure “smooth!” When I watch George Strait today, I see a lot of that same “smooth.”• A highly regarded song or album you’ve never heard: Anything by Phish. They sell albums and concert tickets but I’ve never heard their music.• An “important” piece of music you just don’t get: Pretty much anything by the Grateful Dead. • An album you played or listened to incessantly: The Beatles, Abbey Road. • One obscure or non-country song everyone should listen to right now: Francesca Battistelli’s “Free To Be Me.” Super Christian artist. Her whole CD is fabulous.

Winter No. 1s: WUSY, WOGK, WDRM, WXBQ, WIVK, KSSN Here’s another batch of results for the Winter 2009 Arbitron ratings, and our look at how Country stations in diary-based markets have fared. Check the May 4 CA Weekly archives for the first group of Country ratings at www.countryaircheck.com. As part of our weekly market-by-market offerings, with a few exceptions, only stations achieving at least a 1.0 share are included. Legend: A “+” indicates a Classic Country outlet, a “^” designates Country stations in the same market owned by a single operator and a “t” indicates a tie. A “NA” indicates a subscriber-only market, where rankings are not available. Also, not all Country stations are listed in the non-subscriber markets.

Each week we’ll present a running tally of the Winter 2009 Arbitron ratings and rankings for all Country stations printed in Country Aircheck Weekly. The ratings/rankings in these box scores are only those from the station’s home market. (The 12+ and Rankings totals differ because non-subscriber markets contribute to 12+ shares, but not to rankings.)
