A FAMOUS ENGLISH HUMORISTJEROME KLAPKA JEROME

AND HIS SUBTLE HUMOUR

Jerome K. Jerome is a well-known humorist and one of that writers whose literary works are full of aphorisms. They strike us with their wittiness and accuracy.

Only one who has quite a lot of absolutely urgent deals can really enjoy one`s laziness”.Насладиться ленью по-настоящему может лишь тот, у кого есть куча совершенно неотложных дел.

“It is necessary to think not about that what can be useful to us , but only about that, without what we shall not be able to present.”Нужно думать не о том, что нам может пригодиться, а только о том, без чего мы не сможем обойтись.

"He willingly takes the heaviest burden and without complaining loads it on someone else shoulder“Он охотно берет самое тяжелое бремя и безропотно взваливает его на чужие плечи.

In the history of English literature Jerome K. Jerome

occupies the modest place. He cannot be

compared with Dickens, Thackeray,

or Bernard Shaw, but he is well known as a writer-humorist not only in his country

but in other countries too.

He attended the Philological School, later known as the Marylebone Grammar School.

In his free moments Jerome tried to write. He wrote

plays, stories and articles, but nothing was published. His first literary success was

a one-act comedy which was performed in the Globe

theatre in London in 1886.

The Globe theatre

On 21 June 1888 Jerome married divorcée Georgina Elizabeth Henrietta Stanley Marris, "Ettie" (1859–1938). Jerome and Georgina's daughter Rowena was born in 1898.

He went travelling all over Europe and in 1899 he visited St. Petersburg, where he was met with enthusiasm. “The Russian person - one of the most charming creatures of the globe…”

When the first World War began Jerome wanted to go to the front as a volunteer. The English army wouldn't accept his service but in 1916 Jerome was an ambulance driver for the French army.

On 17 February 1927 Jerome went back to Belsize house where a tablet graces his birth home and he was given the honour of Freeman of the Borough of Walsall in the Town Hall.

On 14 June 1927 Jerome died in Northampton General Hospital after suffering a series of strokes. He was cremated at Golders Green, Middlesex on 17 June and buried at St. Mary's Church, Ewelme, Oxfordshire.

One of his most interesting and humorous book“Three Men in a Boat” was written in 1828.The History of a very unusual journey of three english gentlemen on the river Thames in the company with their loved dog.
