The Paralegal Post January/February 2019

Writing an article about oneself is never fun. What is too much? What is not enough? What

do readers care about? Is it good bathroom reading material? With that in mind, here

goes an article about me--Stephanie Jones. I was born and raised in Bakersfield. Other

than for the period of time I went to U.C.L.A. (on a softball scholarship), I have lived here

all of my life. Currently divorced with two amazing adult children. I have a son who is 25

years old, that will be engaged (or at least I think she will say yes) by the time this article

comes out and a 19 year old daughter who is in college.

When I was in college, I wanted to be a sports journalist. However, the first time a public

female speaker came in she said to the class, “If you plan on being married and having

children, this is not the field for you. You will work lots of nights and weekends.” So, with

that said, I switched careers. “Go be a paralegal” they said, “You will work 8-5” they said .

. . well, they lied!! After college, I landed a permanent location working for the Law Office

of Edward J. Thomas, where I spent almost 30 years. Nevertheless, after working in divorce

law, it took a toll on me, and I switched to working for Center for Neuro Skills where I deal

with a bunch of different areas of law. So far, it was one of the hardest decisions I ever

had to make in my life. I am very blessed for everything I learned, the experience I

gained, the friendships I acquired, and my everlasting relationship with Ed and Sue

Thomas. Now enough about that before I start crying again . . .

Thus far in life, I have enjoyed following my son around as he competed in baseball

throughout high school and college and watching my daughter cheer and show

livestock. In fact, this year at the Kern County Fair, she was fortunate to work hard enough

to exhibit the 2018 Grand Champion Market Hog. For those who do not know what that

means, she was number 1 out of almost 800 pigs. Extremely exciting! But now that my

kiddos are basically all grown, it is my time to do what I love, which is riding horses. In the

past, and now working on doing it again, I have competed around the state (and some

out of the state) in events with my horses using cattle. So,

mom is working on getting back in the saddle again.

COMMUNITY GIVING FEBRUARY

***************

GLEANERS’ SENIOR SACK PROGRAM

Our Community Affairs opportunity for February is a canned/packaged food drive to benefit the Golden Empire Gleaners’ Senior Sack Program. There are currently 24 sites throughout Kern County in the Senior Sack Program. Food is delivered twice each month for distribution to registered seniors. “Sacks” provide at least ten items, including fresh fruits and vegetables, bread, snack items, and staples. This program is to be both food relief and encouragement of social interaction for seniors. Each site is run by volunteers who help unload the Gleaners’ delivery.

Donations for the Senior Sack Program can be made at the February KCPA meeting or, in the alternative, delivered to Nancy Tinnish c/o Patrick E. Jennison, APLC, 4520 California Ave., Ste. 200 through the month of February.
