Headlice
There has been a reported case of Head Lice in the school. Parents are asked to check their child/children’s heads and in those instances where head lice or eggs are found, treat your child’s hair. We ask for parents to be diligent in the process so as a school we seek control before it becomes a problem. Please thoroughly treat them and then continue to make follow up checks for eggs over a seven to ten day period. It must be noted that one head lice can lay hundreds of eggs. Children with head lice can be re admitted to school after head lice treatment has commenced, there is no need to miss school. We will be conducting Random head lice checks over the coming weeks. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the school. Head lice are common in school-aged children and are the most adaptable of creatures. Information brochures are available from school or from The Department of Education and Training website. Helpful hints :
- Using a conditioner and comb method regularly is the best way to detect head lice and minimise the problem also
- Tying back hair can help prevent the spread of head lice.
Parent Opinion Survey
This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted electronically rather than the old paper format. The survey is conducted to find out what you think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is completed annually by the Department of Education and Training and is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents at every school in Victoria. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey helps our school gain an understanding of how you view our school climate, student engagement, and relationships. Our school will use the results to inform school planning and improvement strategies. The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. It can be accessed from Monday 7th August to Sunday 27th August. Results will be sent back to our school at the end of September. A letter explaining the online survey for the randomly selected parents has been sent home with today’s newsletter. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the school office. Come and Try Day - Friday, 4th August
We are holding a “Come and Try” Day this Friday, 4th August from 9.00am – 11.30am at Katunga
Primary School for anyone who has not yet made up their mind where to enrol their child or
children next year. This is a day where prospective students can experience our school in action.
The day is focussed on Foundation (Prep) students for 2018 but anyone can attend. The students
that attend will be involved in classroom based activities and also have the opportunity to
experience recess/play time at our school. This is an excellent opportunity for prospective families
to explore our great facilities and play with our friendly students. If anyone has any questions about this day or would
like more information feel free to contact us. The formal transition days for Foundation (Prep) students in 2018 begin in
term 4.

Visits to Strathmerton Pre School
As of next Tuesday I will be taking students to visit Strathmerton Pre School to promote our school and to allow the Pre School students the opportunity to get to know some of our students for when they enrol in 2018. The visits are only for half an hour from 9.30am – 10.00am so they will not impact too much on the students learning at school. The first week I will be taking the school captains and the following weeks I will take grade five students. Please fill out and return the attached permission slips as well as a form which gives permission to travel in a private car.
Lightning Premiership – Friday, 4th August
The lightning premiership will be held in Numurkah this year. This is for footballers in grades 4 – 6
and netballers in grade 5 -6. The draws and oval location are stated below.
Winter Clothing
With the very cool winter mornings students need to rug up and keep warm, but as the day progresses and they remove
their jumpers they leave them lying around the school grounds. We would encourage parents to remind students to be
responsible for their belongings and ensure parents name all items of clothing. Parents are most welcome to check the
lost property box at school for any missing items.

6 Thrive, Strive and Achieve
All students are encouraged to provide their own lunch, snacks and drinks. There will be a canteen at the football/softball and a separate canteen at the netball (no BBQ’s) providing snacks and some hot foods. As food may or may not run out, it is important that students bring their own lunch.
