Areas of the POD

Security Check Point-Everyone entering the campus must stop at this point. This will give security/traffic control staff the opportunity to direct workers to staff parking areas and POD participants to the public parking areas. This will also provide an initial triage opportunity for those who may require handicapped parking and those who may be exhibiting signs/symptoms of illness.

POD Entrance

Entrance-This is where the public will first come to the POD. Greeters will be stationed outside the entrance to the building. This will give another opportunity to triage clients for signs/symptoms of illness. Greeters stationed here include Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) and LPN’s.

Registration, Education and Individual Counseling

Upon entrance, clients will be directed to the PE Gym Room # 165 to Clerks. They will receive a client history form, anthrax fact sheet, labels for medication they must print their names on, clip boards and pens. While in line, materials should be reviewed/completed. Greeters may assist with this process and assess the need for additional Education, Individual Counseling or additional assistance such as translation services or unaccompanied minors.

Dispensing Area

The Dispensing Area for this exercise is the Gym #162. Guides will be stationed in the hallway directing clients from the Registration Area to the Dispensing Area.

TriageA Greeter at the entrance to the dispensing area will check the form for completion and direct clients to the next available clinician for triage. MD/CRNP/RPh will triage clients according to the client history form, mark the appropriate dispensing line and determine the medication for EXPRESS clients. Families with children will be sent to FAMILY, clients with a complex medical history will be sent to DUR and anyone needing additional assistance will be sent to SUPPORT SERVICES.

Triage*For this exercise, we will only be dispensing Doxy and Cipro tablets. If a client is unable to take either of these medications, they will be given a referral form to their Primary Care Provider for treatment.

EXPRESS

This is where medication will be dispensed to clients by Registered Nurses with uncomplicated medical histories. A Triage Clinician will determine the medication to be dispensed.

FAMILY

Families with children will be sent to this area. Children will be given Doxy tablets with crushing and dosing instructions based on weight unless contraindicated. Medications will be dispensed by Pharmacists and pharmacy students.

DRUG UTILIZATION REVIEW (DUR)

Complicated medical histories will be sent to DUR for dispensing by Pharmacists and pharmacy students. An ADPH screening algorithm will help determine the appropriate medication. If a client cannot take the medications provided at the POD, he will be referred to his Primary Care Provider with the yellow form for documentation.

SUPPORT SERVICES

Clients in need of additional assistance will be sent to this line for dispensing by Pharmacists and pharmacy students. Examples of additional assistance include a Social Worker providing assistance to unaccompanied minors or clients exhibiting signs of distress or the interpreter providing translation services for the dispensing process.

EXIT

All items given out during the dispensing process will be dropped off at the exit, including client history forms. Runners will recycle items back into the POD as needed through the Clinical Supply Area.

Availability

Availability at a station in the POD such as TRIAGE or EXPRESS Dispensing will be signaled by an orange flag-Greeters or Guides will then send clients to the open station.

Supplies

Each station is responsible for requesting supplies using this sign. Runners will monitor the areas and fill requests as they occur.
