weighted ranked GPA, usually lower. This is used to determine

honor graduates

All Grades Unweighted:➢ All grades without multipliers. This is used for consideration for

National Honor Society.

-Ranking with current Junior class as of the last day of school, May 28, 2020.

• Final Official 6th Semester Rank– Available Sept 2020, date TBA

– Ranked with Seniors enrolled as of the 3rd week of school.

– Preliminary rank will be gone & no longer available.

How to Apply for College• After narrowing your college list, start applying

for colleges by completing your Apply Texas application at www.applytexas.org

• Private schools have their own applications. Check their websites.

• If applying out of state use the Common Application at www.commonapp.org

• Students will have the opportunity to complete the Apply Texas application through their English class senior year.

How to Apply for College, cont.• FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS• Do not skip any parts on the application.• Be as thorough as possible.• This is the time to brag about yourself. • Additional items may need to be mailed

(fee waiver, letter of recommendation, etc.)• Make sure to click “Submit.”

• Be aware of college application deadlines – many have December 1st deadlines

• Examples: different deadlines for admission, admission with scholarships, early action and honors college

Once You’ve Applied -Essays

• Write required essays and have them proofread. Not all colleges require essays, so check.

• If you have borderline grades, write an essay about Topic C (on the Apply Texas or Common Application) even if you are not required to write an essay.

Once You’ve Applied -Letters of Recommendations

• Colleges who ask for letters of recommendations do read them.

• Not all colleges want recommendation letters, so do not send one if not requested.

• Only ask for a recommendation from people who know you well and will write a positive letter.

Once You’ve Applied –Sending a Transcript

• See Ms. Kersten in A103.09(1) Make sure your Transcript Release Form is on file

with Ms. Kersten(2) Complete the request online

• Cost of each transcript $5 • Transcripts for scholarships are free.• Requests should be made at least two

weeks before a deadline.

• Computers are available to research colleges, take interest inventories, and actually apply online.

• Information from different colleges is available.

NCAA Eligibility Center Athletic scholarships from

Division I and Division II schools

• Register online with the NCAA Eligibility Center at www.eligibilitycenter.org

• Request an official transcript be sent to the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Upcoming Deadlines:• February 21: Course Cards due to Science

teacher and courses must be entered online in

Skyward.

• February 28: Apply Texas Handbook must be

completed for Dual Credit, if student isn’t currently

in Dual Credit and wants to take a DC course next

year.

• March 6: Dual Credit Academic Handbook paper-

work for all students wanting to take DC next year

must be turned into Mrs. Reyes or Mrs. Obey in the

Counseling Office.

• May 28: Last day to submit changes to your

courses for next year to your Counselor.

• June 17: Preliminary Official 6th Semester Rank
