Junior High Leader Bios
…Mark Scheid, 8th grade Leader… Mark was born in Ohio and
grew up in Indiana. When
he was in Junior High, he
made the National Babe
Ruth Baseball League Hall of
Fame and played the
trombone- what a combo!
He currently works for SPX
Corporation as Regional
Sales Manager for Western
US & Canada and lives in
Laguna Beach. Mark has
been at SCPC for about 5
years and has mainly
been involved in worship
on Sunday mornings…until
now. If you are lucky, he
will teach you how to
cook hamburgers and
hotdogs on the car engine
while driving.
Random facts:
1. Mark was born with three holes in his heart. (I think it was so the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
could live there forever. Or…he’s a very good bowler)
2. Mark’s favorite sandwich when he was in Junior High? Fried bologna w/ american cheese.
Mmhmhm….
3. Mark’s favorite childhood Saturday cartoon? "Johnny Quest" Check out Old School Jonny
Quest here
…Steve Gilbertson, 8th grade Leader… Steve was born in Minnesota and was led to CA when he went to seminary in the Bay Area to
become a Lutheran Pastor. Being a Pastor actually
brought him down to San Clemente when he led Our
Savior’s Lutheran in South San Clemente. Steve is married
to a beautiful woman named Anne (for almost 30 years
now) and they have 3 sons together. Steve loves hockey,
eh?, and will occasionally “check” 8th grade boys into the
boards if they aren’t looking. Steve will be co-leading our
Parent Fellowship on Sunday mornings, 9-10AM with Katie
Mann.
Random Facts:
1. Steve grew up in a house with one black and white TV with no remote control. Does that
blow your mind?!?!
2. Steve proposed to his wife after knowing her for 30 days! Further mind blowage.
3. Steve’s favorite teams are the Vikings and Twins from Minnesota. Someone please where a
Green Bay shirt to TNT and blow his mind.
…Sheila Cedervall, 7th grade Leader… Sheila was born in Pennsylvania and found her way out to San Clemente in 1997. That’s about as
long as our Junior Highers have been alive! Sheila and her husband, Clark, are deacons at
SCPC. She was a Sunday School teacher for some time- she even taught some of the Junior
Highers when they were 2 and 3 years old. She’s a pro at handbells. If you have a set, she will
rock your world. Sheila currently owns a company called EcoStrategies. She is a LEED (Leaders in
Energy Efficient Design) Accredited Professional. LEEDs specialize in sustainable building
practices including converting homes and businesses to renewable energy. Translation: she
takes care of God’s creation.
Random Facts:
1. Sheila’s favorite sport is swimming (probably
because it's the only sport I've ever done). She swims 3-4
times a week at Ole Hanson Swim Club. Don't ask her to
run, especially long distances!
2. Sheila’s nickname from childhood is "Lady Stick",
having something to do with being really skinny and having
the maiden name "Stuchell".
3. When Sheila was six she almost burned down her
house on Christmas Day by leaving her new Susie Homemaker oven plugged in. The
smell of melting plastic from her room was the only thing that saved her family. Who
knew it was heated with a light bulb?
…Alina Reynolds, 8th grade leader… Alina has been at SCPC since 2007 and recently became a member in 2009. She’s helped in
the nursery, with MOPS, and with the communion team. She has also helped out with baking
cookies for Sunday. She eats too much of the dough, so she’s trying to cut back. She is a
psychologist working on an early childhood teaching credential. Alina had many fond
memories of Junior High and she’ll admit a few painful ones too (boo teenage angst!). She had
amazing mentors during that time, her Junior High youth pastor and his wife, Brian and Lori Cress.
Because of this, she can’t wait to share her life with Junior Highers.
Random Facts:
1. Alina is quite an acrobat- when she was in Junior
High she would perform stunts on the back of
galloping horses.
2. Until 8th grade, Alina’s favorite clothes were her
brother’s hand-me-downs. Hey, they were
comfortable!
3. Alina loves reading. When she was in Junior High
she was reading J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and
Madeline L’Engle. Hear that book worms? You got a mentor!
…Lauren Ferdig, 7th grade Leader… Lauren has been attending SCPC since 2006. During that
time, she has been a leader with Youth Club (Elementary),
LightForce (Preteen) and now Junior High. She was
involved in the High School Ministry while at SCHS and was
a part of the leadership team that helped plan missions
and events. She has been a camp counselor at Forest
Home for SCPC. She went to Indian Village, Adventure
Mountain and Creekside for the past three years. She
worked as a counselor and photographer at Emerald Cove Day Camp this past Summer. EC
Day Camp is an affiliate of the summer camp our Jr. High and High School attend. This past
spring she graduated from SCHS. She is now attending Saddleback College, working toward her
GE req’s. She spends her time reading classic novels, playing with her dog, Caesar, learning
more about photography, listening to classical music, collecting movie soundtracks and figuring
out ways to travel the world.
Random Facts:
1. Her favorite movies as a kid were Lion King and Hook (Good show, Peter, I mean Lauren).
2. She’s a huge fan of youth ministry games. Her favorite? Sardines. That’s not the eating
fish from a can kind, it’s the reverse hide and seek kind.
3. Lauren has been with her group of 7th graders since they were in elementary school. She
looks forward to being with them through High School. Go class of 2016!
…Greir Lee-Thorp, 7th grade leader… Greir (his full first name is actually Greirson) is studying
computer maintenance repair at saddleback. He also runs a
business that does computer repair and web development. Greir
has been at SCPC for 10 years. He has served in the nursery, Youth
Club, and Lightforce. Oh and in case you didn’t already know,
he’s been one of the church’s tech junkies for some time now. He
even ran our CD copying ministry!
Random Facts:
1. Greir can pull a computer apart and put it back together in
10 min
2. He sang in a choir in Junior High (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So Cool!)
3. He hates cashews (it’s a strong word, but very accurate for
his disdain of this nut)
…Lauren Wright, 7th grade leader… Lauren has been at SCPC since she was a wee tot. She
was baptized here and was part of all the youth programs
all the way through High School. She began serving at
SCPC in the youth programs in 5th grade (!!!). Right now
she goes to Saddleback College to fulfill her general ed.
req. and works at Rubio’s.
Random Facts:
1. Lauren is horribly afraid of the dark. Hey, you keep
the lights on!
2. She gets scared that there are animals on the ground that might bite her. Not afraid of
Junior High students that bite, though.
3. She hopes to someday open a bakery.
