Maxwell in 1864 “We have strong reason to conclude

that light itself (including radiant heat

and other radiation, if any) is an electromagnetic disturbance

in the form of waves propagated through the electro-magnetic field

according to electro-magnetic laws.”

Ivan Tolstoy(Maxwell’s Biographer)

“Maxwell's importance in the history of scientific thought is comparable to Einstein’s (whom he inspired) and to Newton’s (whose influence he curtailed)”

Albert Einstein

"The special theory of relativity owes its origins to Maxwell's equations of the

electromagnetic field."

Albert Einstein

"Since Maxwell's time, physical reality has been thought of as represented by continuous

fields, and not capable of any mechanical interpretation.

This change in the conception of reality is the most profound and the most fruitful that physics has experienced since the time of

Newton"

“…our goal is simple: within this parliament we want Britain to have the best superfast broadband network in

Europe.”

Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport,

8th June 2010

BDUK Goals1. To ensure delivery of the 2Mbps Universal Service

Commitment within the lifetime of this parliament (2015).

2. To ensure this country has the best superfast broadband in Europe by the end of this parliament (2015).

3. To ensure the efficient use of funding to deliver Universal Service Commitment and Superfast Broadband.

4. To assist other Government initiatives which are dependent upon customers ability to access Broadband based services.

Reflections on Maxwell’s Work

• Copper Wires, Fibre Optic Cables and Ether are all conductors of electromagnetism…

• We now need for a Grand Unified Theory for the EFFECTIVE DISTRIBUTION of these Electromagnetic Waves to ALL CITIZENS

• A Scottish Internet Exchange (SIX), Digital Village Pumps and a sensible way of sharing assets for the so-called “Final Third” are vital components of this Grand Unified Theory.

BE INCLUSIVE,

Scotland can (and probably should)

lead the UK on innovation for provisioning NGA to the final third -

simply because so much of the country is so sparsely populated!
