IMAGINE WHAT YOU CAN DO
January 2016
PHILOSOPHY
THE ETERNAL BRONZE AGE Architectural tastes have evolved as the world’s consciousness has changed, attracted once again by the beauty, quality and value of timeless materials. The architecture of tomorrow demands struc-tural integrity and material durability to provi-de lasting economic and aesthetic value. The finest materials and patina age gracefully with this exposure to become even more beautiful over time.
Today, bronze has rediscovered its ageless alliances with architecture and sculpture. For architecture, the word ‘time’ exists in the meaning of years, centuries, and then of rain, wind, sun…Astec is ever more conscious to learn new techniques and technologies, with surpri-sing adaptability, to create lightness in form, impossible only yesterday. This allows a spe-cial dialogue with its junior relative, that other material born from the meeting between natu-re, intelligence, and flame at the edge of the same primordial fire pit: glass...
Bronze and its architectural applications re-present, today, the core business of Astec, which was born in 1983 in the region of Ve-nice, Italy. With 30 years of experience in the international building panorama, Astec has established the capability of delivering unique, outstanding projects, designed by worldwide renowned architects and engineers.
Masterful technique, combined with deep ma-terial knowledge, endless research, and pro-duction flexibility inspire innovation and form the basis of the Astec manufacturing process. The result of this process, executed in com-bination with glass, another indispensable ar-chitectural material, is an exclusive range of fenestration built in ABX Architectural Bronze extruded profiles.
A perfect liaison between organization and manufacturing process, focused to anticipa-te market trends, together with a long lasting collaboration with designers from across the globe, demonstrates up the perfect simplicity of excellent materials designed to integrate with historical, contemporary or modern settings.
“A large building can strike us with its
appearance like no other work of art:
it seduces us, it embraces us,
it plays a part in shaping our life
and protecting us; it dominates the
landscape; it captures the spirit
of the times like no other form.“
Marvin Trachtenberg and Isabel Hyman

To do all this you need a great Team and great Partners. Thanks to you all. A special Thank to Philippe Daverio for his contribution.
Astec’s many years of work, research and experimentation have been rewarded with a profound understanding of materials and an enviable, world-class technical expertise. These attributes add lasting value to a variety of architectural solutions, from simple, elegant fenestration to even more elaborate architectural expressions including façades, staircases, entry systems and virtually any static or dynamic design concept that current, state-of-the-art technology can bring forth.Astec mastery of the treatment and finishing of precious alloys, the offspring of a passion for noble materials, in particular bronze, led the Company to a compelling entrepreneurial idea: to empower the traditional artisan’s hand with modern fabrication and finishing techniques, resulting in bronze fabrications that display unique and timeless character.
All phases of Astec fabrications are entrusted to the expert hands and eyes of the craftsman, ensuring that each and every little detail receives the careful attention it deserves. This is the guarantee to the client of exclusive, individual products made-to-measure, signed by the uniqueness and perfection of the different patina finishes proposed by Astec.Obtained through a natural treatment process, Astec exclusive patina finishes give a personal touch to any selected color, creating at the same time a passivating film which protects against environmental aggression and offers a perfect resistance to corrosion. For interior design and façade cladding requirements, Astec’s program of special finish techniques spans to infinite possibilities, thanks to the continuous team work of research and development. We thank every architect, designer and client who daily provides Astec with the stimulation to experiment and think “outside the box”.Years of working side-by-side with famous international designers to create unique technical solutions and special finishes have made Astec the ideal resource for an ever more demanding clientele.

The Headquarters Building of Natuzzi
in High Point, North Carolina,
represents one of the most evocative
works undertaken by Astec.
This four-story building is strongly characterized by a grand wall,
formed like the prow of a ship and entirely covered with panels
made of architectural bronze alloy.
To clad the thirteen thousand square foot surface, the façade
required nine hundred one-eighth inch thick panels, each of a
slightly different shape and size. Installation required minute
precision to maintain a consistent one and three-sixteenths inch
gap between panels. Altogether, over two hundred and fifty
thousands pounds of laminated bronze alloy was required.
As an example of organizational strength, Astec completed the
work in only 196 days.
The old farmhouse from 1600, around
which Podere Ascianello turns,
is situated along a bend in the
ancient Lauretana road, and has been
completely renovated by architect
Pietro Del Vaglio.
Located at the center of a vineyard, its inhabitants were
dedicated to the grape harvest. The main intent with the
restoration was to keep the original structure as a mirror of the
local rural customs. Materials had to harmonize and complement
the existing structure and its ancient materials.
There was no better choice than bronze windows, with an
exclusive custom patina finish, to marry with the rose stone that is
typical of the region. The shapes of the Astec ABX® Architectural
Bronze were formed specifically to follow the existing stone
curves of the farmhouse windows so that all of the original
architectural intent was preserved.

Conceived by internationally acclaimed
architect Peter Marino, and located at
677 5th Avenue, New York, the Fendi Store
is one of the most striking buildings in
the world.
This exceptional project provided Astec with a unique opportunity to
demonstrate its extraordinary mastery of metal fabrication.
The principal façade presents a metallic cladding in waxed, Cor-Ten
steel, fashioned in a bold, pleated effect with perforated accent panels.
To complete this highly custom installation, ABX® W65 thermally broken
bronze windows were specified for the 3rd through the 6th floors.

Contemporary in design, the first
Bulgari resort project perfectly
balances simplicity of detail
with color palette to create
a luxurious, serene retreat in
the heart of Milan.
This idyllic setting created an ideal context for Astec
contributions. The principal façade is characterized by an
extensive curtain wall system in architectural bronze and glass
that brings the botanical gardens into view.
Astec also had the opportunity to equip the prestigious SPA with
bronze interior doors, finished in a very sleek ‘gun-metal grey’
patina. These Astec installations met the architect’s specifications
for a contemporary style executed in the finest materials.

All the various openings were tailor made in architectural
extruded bronze. Astec ABX® profiles have been used
on interior doors, external windows and garage overhead
doors.
The first three floors of the building are now used as office
space, and the last two floors are occupied as personal
residence. The entrance hall and reception are connected
by a staircase made by Astec in blackened steel and
wood, with bronze handrail, executed in one unique piece.
The superb view of the old city center from the top floor
living room is enhanced by three glass walls, realized
completely in achitectural bronze, and fitted with large
bronze sliding doors to provide access to the rooftop
terrace.
The Astec passion for detail is evident throughout in all
the final elements of the structure; including the intercom
plates and mail boxes, all custom made in accordance

With the aim of renovating the ‘Concortel Hotel’ in Paris,
the Interior Architecture & Design Agency Noor, has
chosen to dress the wall partitions of the main rooms,
mixing textural materials with monochromatic forms.
Their materials included bronze plates, especially
burnished by Astec to obtain a patina finish which
integrates very well with all other materials colors.
The choice of bronze cladding with a particular warm
shaded patina, positioned close to the fireplace,
enhances the intimate and exclusive atmosphere
surrounding the guests.

In the center of the city of Bergamo, Italy,
stand beautiful ancient ruins that have been
protected as an archaeological site.
Architect and Professor Adolfo Natalini was entrusted to maintain the
archaeological integrity of this treasured location while imagining an
integrated design for a luxury resort with contemporary styling for the site.
He started with his philosophy that “Nothing can be built with ruins, but
anything can be built over ruins”.
The intent was that the design become an integral part of the environment
surrounding the historic ruins. Because Architectural Bronze is a
timeless natural material that is highly weather resistant, it is the perfect
complement to the enduring nature of historic architectural materials. It
was chosen as the cladding for the facade of the structure for its practical
and aesthetic properties. The bronze façade blends well with the windows
in architectural bronze, as well as with many internal elements, such as
handrails and bronze framed fixed glazing. According to architect Natalini,
the project is an excellent representation of the prowess with which Astec
works in Architectural Bronze.

Situated in the heart of New York
City’s NoHo district, 25 Bond Street
is a luxurious apartment building
with outstanding contemporary style
where Astec ABX® Architectural
Bronze technology was used to
construct the grand facade.
It was chosen for its qualities of resistance and solidity as well as
for its noble aesthetic value. The facade is comprised of ample
fixed glazing and automatic doors on the ground floor, with more
than 80 parallel sliding windows in the levels above. In particular,
the W65 and K85 thermally insulated profiles were used for the
window and door openings.
All of the various bronze elements, including the laser cut
residence name sign, were designed to perfectly match with a
custom designed classic patina by Astec.
