! Personal research ! Student chooses the question !  4,000 words (or equivalent) in an IB

subject.

what is it? ! SP is any topic of interest and in a

variety of formats with a 1,000 word report.

! The emphasis is put on creative project.

The Process (Spring)

Identify the subject (student)

History, Language, Philosophy, Art = Readings and analysis

Sciences, Mathematics, Economics, Anthropology = More experimental and data collection.

Two routes

The Process (Spring) Identify the topic (student with supervisor’s

help) ! Make list ! Read textbooks !  Look at general

encyclopedias ! Talk to supervisor !  Look at former

The Process (Spring) Create ! Notes

! Detailed outline, summer plan

! First draft ?

The Process (Summer) ! Gather more data (readings,

experiments, interviews, statistics….)

! Organize the information ! WRITE DRAFT (second?)

The Process (Fall) ! Present a full draft to supervisor (Early

September) ! Review re-writes after discussion with

supervisor
