Getting started: what do you need?

• You will need appropriate:

– Software

– Equipment

• What equipment is available and which should I use?

– Podcast (Audio)

• A built-in mic (low quality)

• Headset (inexpensive/Better quality/available for loan)

• Podcast Studio (Professional quality/available for loan)

– Vodcast (Video podcast)

• Webcam (low quality)

• FlipHD (good quality/inexpensive/available for loan)

• Most HD Video recorders (Better quality/more expensive/more technical)

– Screencast

• Software and microphone (see above)

Handy tips to help you plan

• Find somewhere really quiet to record your podcast

• Make sure you are prepared and have everything you need

• Plan what you’re going to say (write a script or use storyboards)

• Allow sufficient time

• Keep your podcast episode bite-sized. Aim to be no longer than 5 minutes

• Don’t use copyrighted materials – IMPORTANT

• Not permitted to use materials unless:

– they are created by yourselves or

– are owned by Plymouth University

– they have been licensed for re-use
