Introduction to EndNote Web

• EndNote Web is an online reference management software
• Free to staff and students of the University• Can be accessed anywhere online• See the following webpage for a

Introduction
• Register to create your own password-protected EndNote Web library
• Go to http://www.myendnoteweb.com
• Click on the Sign Up link and follow instructions to create an EndNote Web account
Register for access
• Go to the Options tab, and then Download Installers to download and install an EndNote Web plug-in
• The plug-in Cite While You Write includes a toolbar for Internet Explorer or Firefox

There are 6 ways to collect references:
• Online search• Manually add references • Direct export from databases (e.g. Web of
Knowledge, AHCI)• “Capture” references from websites (e.g
YouTube)• Import references (as text files)• Transfer references to/from EndNote
desktop
Collect references
Online Search for references
Select a library catalogue or a database from the pull-down menu (this can be customised to remove unavailable libraries)
Search for book in catalogue via EndNote Web
Retrieve record, mark and add to group
• Go to Collect tab and select New References
• Select Reference Type and complete relevant sections of record
Manually add references
• When searching in databases, look out for link to EndNote Web
Direct export from databases
• Use the Capture tab in the EndNote Web tool bar
Capture references from websites
• New references will go to the [Unfiled] group until they are moved to a selected group
Organise and share references
Create a New Group by using the pull-down menu
• Share a bibliography via the Organize tab
Share references
If someone has shared a bibliography with you, this will be visible in the My References menu
• Select the Format tab
Format a bibliography
Select the references (bibliography), the bibliographic style, and then the output format
• Use the EndNote Web toolbar in Word to add references to documents
