Elicit and Express Emotions

Depending on who you are talking to, you will ask and answer your emotions in a particular way. Just as we do in English, we would not say, “What’s up Bro” to our boss and would not say, “Hello good sir” to our little sister!

In Spanish the word Tú means you (friendly)

The word Usted means you (formally)

Here are a few ways to greet your friends

Write these in your glossary

•¿Cómo estás? How are you

•¿Qué pasa? Whats up

•¿Qué tal? How’s it going

Here are a few ways to greet your bosses, neighbors, waitors,

teachers, etc. (write this in your glossary)

•¿Cómo está Usted? = ¿Cómo está Ud? = How are you (formal)

You will often times see the word Ud. That is the abbreviation for

Usted. Just like Sr. is the abbreviation for Señor

Answering

Estoy bien I am good

Estoy muy bien -I am very

good

*Nada - Nothing (when

asked what’s up or Qué

pasa)*

Estoy así así -regular

Te Toca a TíMeet and Greet and Elicit and Express Emotions

Wearing a costume, you will now walk the room as though you were at a neighborhood party. First:

● Greet - good evening● Exchange names● Elicit and Express emotions (how are you, I am good) remember to use the

appropriate form. This will depend on who the person is, if they are an old man or woman, you will need to use the Usted form. If it is a teenager or kid you can use any of the Tú greetings.

Short CutsIN Spanish just like in English, we have shortcuts.

When someone says, how are you? We say “fine, you?

Well we do the same in Spanish. Formally we say, “Y (eeeh) Usted?”

Informally we say, “Y tú?”

DespedidasNow it’s time to say goodbye

Adios – Bye

See you later – Hasta luego

See you tomorrow – Hasta mañana

See ya - Nos vemos

Have a good day - Que tenga buen día
