Can you do the job? Will you love the job?Can we

tolerate to work with you?

Most hiring managers have an idea of the ideal candidate for the position, and it's your job to convince the employer that you are that candidate -- that you are a good fit... a good fit with both the position AND the organization/Fit with the company

4 R’s ‐ visualization too in role play sections

EXERCISE: 3 minute meditation

10

Picture yourself preparing, feeling confident and ableArriving at the location, knowing exactly where you are going and with your timing filling you with easeImagine meeting your interviewer, being excited about the opportunity and feeling calmPicture yourself answering interview questions easily and fullyYour interviewer is so engaged with what you have to say and is really enjoying your companyYou finish the interview, calm in the knowledge that you have presented yourself in the best way possibleWhat does that feel like? What are you feeling in your body?

11

Confidence is earned and you can gain it through preparation.

Remember: if they call you for an interview, they believe you can do the job – if they’re calling you they are looking for qualities and potential so don’t worry about not having some of the skills but PREPARE!! – Prepare to answer to fill that gap where you don’t have a match with the position

12

1.Try to visit the interview site a day or two beforehand

Get to the location early

If you are running late, what to do

Relax!

Positive self-talk

13

‐ About social media: Eg. LinkedIn group of Accenture, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest boards of companies you are interested provide constant information around what companies are doing or sharing info/articles that are relevant to the industry – aka also relevant to you!

‐ Come and talk to a Career Advisor – we might have insights, connections, more resources for you!!

It’s surprising how many people don’t look further than the website. One of the biggest turn offs for an employer panel is when you re-gurgitate the website. For all you know the person asking you questions wrote the content on the website!

Follow the Company on Twitter and find out what their customers are Saying about them!

To ensure you fully understand the Company culture make sure you can explain how they differentiate themselves from their competitors.

Example – feedback from Employer: Employer wanted to do a 2nd interview with one student (a Danish/British student who he interviewed last) but when he contacted him the next day, that student had already accepted another job. He was very impressed with this student’s level of research and preparation for the interview.

The other students he interviewed were not nearly as prepared or informed as this one student, so when he didn’t get the 2nd interview he resolved to look at other applications he had received in the meantime through his own website. He said that “it wasn’t that there was anything wrong with the other students, but more that the last Sauder student was so clearly head and shoulders above the others, he decided he wouldn’t be happy with anyone from that group except his first choice.” Ultimately he hired a UBC Economics/Sauder grad (not sure).

You may have heard people say 80% of communication is non-verbal! Well it’s actually 93% - I Googled it, not once, but twice!

It’s not always what you say, but how you say it! What’s your energy level like in the interview? Do you have a firm handshake? Good eye contact, especially if an interview panel.

Reams of psychological research suggest that while most body language does not communicate information per se, it does advertise an attitude. And the wrong attitude can mean the difference getting the job or not!

This starts in the lobby as employers often ask front-line staff what they thought of potential candidates. Be professional in the lobby as this is really where the interview starts!

20

Professional polished appearance is a mustYou should always dress a notch above the people who are already working there – that’s why it’s smart to go there in advance to look around and have an idea

No scents – cologne free zones

Bring a professional portfolio with copies of your resume on quality bond paper – there is one thing about this, they will think the applicant is of higher quality – laser print, white, buff or light grey are ok!

Laptop, calculator in case of presentationsCover letterResume – bring extras!Ask if you can take notes! – good strategy for consulting (case interviews) – ability to summarize/visually show concept

Look on Pinterest Board we have!!

6 seconds to make a very good impression – in the first 5 minutes of the interview the hiring manager will decide if you are a good fit.

Nobody is going to hire anybody they don’t like – smile!!!

Your body language says a lot – more than what you actually say (only 7% of your communication)

Eye contact – how long – don’t break during handshake

Perfume and cologne … too much?

Smoking ?Coffee?

22

Activity: Role-play meeting someone in a lack-lustre manner vs with a big smile and with enthusiasm.
