Operating z/OS and programming for z/OS involves very different skill sets. Operators need to know how to manage processors, peripheral devices and the software and applications that control the z/OS system. Programmers meanwhile need to understand how message processing functions on z/OS to ensure that the operators receive the information they require to perform their role.
