Draft Step ups from Level 1

91338 (2.31): Produce working drawings to communicate technical details of a design

Technical details

• refers to the information related to the design. They describe the functional and aesthetic qualities of the design

• Working drawings are a set of related 2D (orthographic) drawings which may include but are not limited to: components, assembly, sectional view/auxiliary view/true shape/surface development, construction details

Draft Assessment schedule 2.31Achieved producing a set of related scaled drawings, using

conventions, showing complex visual information

Meritclearly communicate

producing an accurate set of related scaled drawings, using conventions, that communicate details of a design

Excellenceeffectively communicate

producing a coherent set of related scaled drawings, using conventions, that communicate details of a design

Achieved Merit Excellence

Communicate means: Clearly communicate: Effectively communicates:

Using working drawings to communicate technical details of own design ideas involves:

using a set of interconnected measured drawings that represent an outcome with conventions.

Use working drawings to clearly communicate technical details of own design ideas involves:

using accurate representation and use of drawing skills and appropriate conventionsshowing visual information not visible in the main outline, or complex shape and form.

Use working drawings to effectively communicate technical details of own design ideas involves:

using consistently accurate representation and drawing skills and appropriate conventionsa coherency in the selection of drawings used, so they communicate relevant visual information.

2.31 Draft Schedule

Produce a set of interconnected 2D instrumental working drawing to show a single design outcome. Demonstrate an ability to use drawing convention to show design decisions. Demonstrate an ability to apply drawing skills to show design decision appropriate for level 2.

The set of working drawings show in depth information not visible in the main outlines. 2D instrumental working drawings show drawing conventions applied appropriately. 2D instrumental working drawings show an ability to use quality drawing skills.

The set of drawings work together to effectively communicate the design idea using relevant views and information. 2D instrumental working drawings show drawing conventions applied appropriately. 2D instrumental working drawings show an ability to use quality drawing skills to accurately represent the design decision.

Clarification of TerminologyDesign ideas are candidate-generated responses to a design brief and process.

Working drawings are a set of interconnected, measured 2D drawings, which may include the following:

Components, Assembly, sectional view / auxiliary view / true shape / surface development , structure, layouts, construction details.

Drawing conventions are the range of conventions (line types, projection methods, dimensions, scale etc) that are associated with the formal working drawings. Drawing conventions need to be appropriate to the drawing type and correctly applied. Drawing skills also draws on relevant standards and codes of practice.Drawing skills are the range of skills associated with line work, drawing layout, accuracy of drawn information, and presentation. Instrumental working drawings may include computer-generated drawings that are produced using standards and conventions.

Excellence

91065 (1.32): Produce instrumental paraline drawings to communicate design ideas

• Conventions of instrumental perspective projection drawings include use of picture plane, station point, eye level lines, ground level lines, vanishing points and height lines.

• Detail of design features may include but is

not limited to the features of such things as windows, door handles, fasteners, reliefs, fittings

Draft Assessment schedule 2.32Achieved using perspective drawing techniques to show

design featuresapplying appropriate conventions

MeritClearly communicate

accurately using perspective drawing techniques to show the detail of the design features

ExcellenceEffectively communicate

selecting a view point that enables the detail of the design features to be shownselecting and accurately using perspective drawing techniques to show the detail of the design features

SAMPLE ASSESSMENT SCHEDULE Achieved Merit ExcellenceCommunicate refers to 3D drawings that show design ideas, using instrumental drawing techniques.

Clearly communicate refers to accurate 3D drawings that communicate design ideas with detail. Detail could include visual information about the internal components, design features and/or complex form.

Effectively communicate refers to precise paraline drawings that comprehensively convey the design intent. This could be shown through e.g. series of related drawings, exploded view, sequential or cut away views.

communicate design ideas. drawings produced using a recognised parallel line pictorial method such as: isometric, trimetric, diametric, oblique and planometricdrawing constructed using instrumental drawing techniquesuse of construction lines and outlines.

clearly communicate design ideas.

the inclusion of visual information about the internal components, design features and/or complex formdrawings constructed using accurate instrumental techniques.

effectively communicate design ideas. also:comprehensively convey the design intent, using related drawings such as: exploded views, sequential views and/or cut away views drawings constructed using precise instrumental techniques; accuracy in measurement, line intensity and line clarity.
