Inspiring careers in food and drink

• SFDF is the representative body of food and drink manufacturers in Scotland.

• One of SFDF’s strategic priorities is to enhance the competitiveness of the industry

• A key strand of this is to promote the industry as a career destination of choice

• To deliver this, we have received funding for A Future in Food and the newly established food and drink skills ambassador network

Our ‘Milky Twist’

journey

By the S3 Enterprise and Employability class at Eastbank Academy,

Glasgow

We are studying for a National Progression Award in Enterprise and Employability

We visited a farm to find out how

milk was produced

There were some downsides…………..

We also visited Wiseman’s Dairy at

Bellshill

We learnt:• The skills you need to

work there • What jobs are available• How milk gets from the

dairy to your fridge

We learnt from one of the best in the business:

Barry Cuthbertson, Wiseman’s Sales and Marketing Manager

Barry taught us about identifying our target market and market

research

Developing our product

We made a smoothie, with ice-cream and fruit

At the moment we are using blueberries but the fruit can be adjusted depending on seasonal availability

“We chose blueberries for our first sale because when we completed our market research, we had a positive response”

Melissa Gray, Production

How we came up with a marketing

strategy

First of all we needed a logo

Then some promotional material…..

We sold the product to our class mates, to

parents and to our teachers

Even Mr Shaw, the Headteacher liked it!!!

And a very important person came to visit us and even bought a smoothie!!

Now we have Government endorsement, we are hoping to raise more money for our charities:

Help the Heroes and the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice

We’d now like to show you a short video telling you what we’ve learned and our jobs within our business
