Background & Rationale

● In 2013, the Federal Department of Education submitted a 5 Year Plan to congress to increase STEM education in coordination with President Obama

● HCPS has recognized the need for STEM education throughout the division

● LMES has included increasing STEM Education at the building level in it’s School Improvement Plan for 2 concurrent years

Timeline

● Previously: VaSTEM Connect Course, VISTA, workshops, presentations, etc.

● 2014-15: Year 1 in the Development of the STEM Lab● 2015-16: Year 2 of STEM Lab development, School Improvement Plan● 2016-17: Year 3 of STEM Lab, Year 2 of School Improvement Plan

Timeline

● This year:○ Update and maintain STEM Lab supplies○ Develop monthly STEM lessons for teachers, have materials ready

and available○ Host the 2016-17 STEM Fair○ Work with teachers to implement the Hour of Code○ Hold a Technology PD in November with ITRT
