How do you measure the height of a horse?
That's easy! Just measure the distance from the ground to the horse's withers, in hands. Where are the withers, you
ask? They are the highest part of a horse's back, located just between the shoulder blades. How long is a hand, you wonder? A hand is four inches. Why a hand? Because horses used to be measured by the width of a person's hand.
