TheA Lasting World, Inc isa non-profit organization fromIllinois who have gone to greatlengthstoprovidewonderfuledu-cational opportunities to the stu-dentsoftheEstillCountyMiddleSchoolYouthServicesCenterthatrecentlyreceivedtheBridgesOverBarriersfromtheFamilyResourceandYouthServicesCenterofKen-tuckyCoalition(FRYSCKy).TheawardwaspresentedtoALastingWorld,IncrepresentativeWenandJerry Marcec at the FRYSCKYStateConferenceattheLexingtonConventionCenteronNovember15,2013. For the last seven (7) yearsthis organization has provided aweek long residential summercamp to rising 7th graders fromECMS. Students attending thiscamparegiventheopportunitytoreceiveafullweekofenvironmen-talsciencerelatedexperiencesthattheytalkaboutforyears.Studentsspendaweekatthecamp.Activityappropriateclothingandshoesareprovided to each student attend-ingtomakesurethateachstudenthas everything that he/she needsduring the camp. All meals andactivities are complementary aswell. Students have the opportu-nitytoexplorecaves,gorepellingandawide rangeofotheractivi-ties.Students attending the camp

alsoreceiveawidearrangeofgiftsandsurprisesalldonatedbyindi-vidualsponsorsrecruitedbycampdirector,WenMarcandherstaff,for each camper. Each year theyreceivehomemadequiltsfortheirbeds made by various women’sorganizationsinIllinois. Parents are also heavily in-volvedinthecamp.TheALastingWorld organization hosts an an-nualmeetingeachyearbeforethecampprovidingparentsand theirstudents an opportunity to meetthecampdirectors,askquestionsabout thecampand then theysitdownandenjoyameal together.Then again on the final night ofthecampaspecialpresentationisdone for the parents, which is areviewofalltheactivitiesthatthestudentshaveparticipated indur-ingtheweek.Heretootheallareencouraged toattendandshareameal. Then they offer several re-unioneventsthroughouteachyearencouragingallformercamppar-ticipantsandtheirfamiliestocometogetherandparticipateinvariouscommunity service projects suchastreeplantingsandetc. Thecontributionsofthisorga-nizationtotheECMS/YSCdon’tstopwiththecamp.Eachyeartheyconducttoydrivesandbringalargetruckloadoftoysdowneveryfall

tobedistributedtoneedyfamiliesduringtheholidays.Furthermore,two years ago this organization

partneredwithBarnesandNobleBookstorestodoabookdriveforthe students of ECMS. This book

drive provided over 2,000 freebooks for students to takehome.That was three books per child.

Thesixthgrade,coachedby Brian Covey and SethMartin, go into Christmasbreakwitharecordof16-3.“Thesixthgradeteamisre-

allyhitting their stride rightnow with pressure defensebeing their strength,” re-markedCoachBonny.Theirconference record stands at4-2. Theseventhgradeteam,coachedbyMarkChaney,iscontinuingtoworkveryhardandareconsistentlyplayingteamstough,theyheadintoChristmas break with a re-cordof5-14.
